Portland Marina



One of the largest marinas in the boatfolk group, Portland marina is a true one-stop-shop for boaters with wet berthing, dry stack, fuel berth and fully serviced yard. We strive to meet our customer's every need with our boatcare repair and maintenance team and boatpoint brokerage for boat sales. The marina is home to the 'Salt' restaurant, a venue with a vibrant atmosphere. Portland marina is the perfect place to quench your thirst at the end of a long day on the water! With a warm and welcoming crew and a vibrant boating community, we bring together boaters from all walks of life.

Our backdrop is the historic Portland Harbour, once an important naval base and the home of Team GB's Olympic sailors, with views out over the Purbeck hills and UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The perfect launch point for seafaring adventures big and small.

About the role



We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Berthing Master to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of berthing activities in the marina. The role involves overseeing the mooring and departure of vessels, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations, and has responsibility for assisting Customers with all aspects of their berthing experience and to keeping site and facilities clean, tidy and well maintained.

Key responsibilities



Meeting and greeting berth holders and visiting yachts Ensure all berthing equipment is in good working order though the completion of routine inspections and report any maintenance needs. Daily Fuel reconciliation. Overseeing marina boat movements including the mooring of vessels and the completion of post use checks and cleaning of the marina's membership boat. Berth and yard patrols and recording of vessel movements and arrivals. Dealing with customer enquiries via telephone, email and VHF radio. This includes providing berthing quotes and marina information to potential berth holders. Collection of berthing fees and payments for marina services. Light maintenance duties on and around the marina. Enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a secure environment for all personnel and vessels. Maintain accurate records of all berthing activities, incidents, and communications. Act as the first responder to any emergencies, coordinating with relevant authorities and implementing emergency procedures as necessary. Support with allocation of appropriate size berths for boats, to optimise use of marina space. Assist with the execution of events for customers and the local community. Carry out various administrative tasks including using the company databases to communicate with customers and answer enquiries, process and reconcile bookings and payments accurately. Proactively facilitate clean, tidy, well maintained and safe pontoons, offices, washrooms and public areas, undertaking maintenance tasks such as pontoon plank replacement, painting, litter picking and pressure washing. From time to time you may be asked to help with boatyard or with other company functions reasonably requested by the Marina Manager/Line Manager.

Skills & Experience



A friendly and supportive team player with a positive mindset, 'can do' and flexible approach. Strong understanding of small commercial and leisure marina operations, safety protocols, and berthing procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with various stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Familiarity with berthing software, CCTV systems, and other relevant technology. Relevant maritime certifications are highly desirable. Attention to detail when entering data and taking payments. Ability to swim essential. An RYA yachting or powerboating qualification is desirable, particularly Powerboat L2.

Working Hours and Environment



We are seeking to recruit a Berthing Master to cover the day shift on a rota basis (average 40 hours per week), which will involve working some weekends and bank holidays.
