Overall purpose of the role




The BI Analyst & Developer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Blues reporting and analytics suite, ensuring that stakeholders across the business have timely, accurate and insightful data. This hybrid role combines data analysis (capturing requirements, interpreting business needs, providing insight) with BI development (building and optimising reports, models and dashboards in Power BI and SSRS). This role is pivotal in enabling a data-driven culture at Blue, supporting strategic decision-making, regulatory reporting, and operational performance management.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities




Business Analysis & Insight

Engage with business users (risk, finance, operations, servicing, compliance) to capture reporting requirements. Translate business questions into clear data specifications and reporting outputs. Provide analysis, commentary, and ad-hoc insights to support decision-making. Act as a bridge between business stakeholders and the data engineering team.


Report & Dashboard Development

Design, develop and maintain interactive dashboards and paginated reports in Power BI and SSRS. Build robust data models and DAX measures to support consistent reporting. Optimise existing reports for performance, usability and scalability. Maintain and extend data sources, datasets and semantic models within the BI environment.


Data Management & Quality

Write efficient SQL queries and stored procedures to extract and transform data. Ensure data quality, consistency and reconciliation between BI outputs and source systems. Work with the Head of Data & Data Architecture to ensure reporting aligns with enterprise data models and governance standards.


Governance & Operations

Support regulatory and board reporting requirements with accurate, auditable outputs. Document reporting processes, data definitions, and lineage. Provide user support and training to promote self-serve reporting across the business. Contribute to the migration from legacy reporting to modern cloud BI platforms.

Compliance and Regulation



Develop and maintain a full understanding of the Companys compliance requirements (including the Financial Conduct Authoritys Conduct Rules) and act in accordance with the standards, instructions in, and the spirit of those requirements. Take responsibility for ensuring that personal data within your remit is handled lawfully, fairly, and in line with the companys data protection policies and procedures. Collaborate with the Data Protection Officer to ensure compliance with data protection standards, guidelines, and principles, acting in a manner that upholds these requirements while supporting the DPOs overall oversight responsibilities. For customer data, ensure it is processed securely and in accordance with data privacy obligations to protect the rights of individuals. For employee personal data, handle it with strict confidentiality and in compliance with employment and data protection legislation. Act to deliver good outcomes for our customers and understand how this requirement specifically applies to your role at Blue.

Skills and Experience



Strong background in business intelligence, data analysis, or BI development in financial services (ideally lending or asset finance). Hands-on expertise in Power BI (DAX, Power Query, data modelling) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Proficiency in SQL (query optimisation, joins, stored procedures, functions). Good understanding of relational databases, ETL concepts, and data warehousing principles. Experience working with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver actionable insights. Familiarity with Azure data services (Synapse, Fabric, Data Factory, SQL DB) is desirable. Strong data visualisation, storytelling and communication skills.

Analytical able to interrogate data and spot patterns, anomalies, or opportunities. Pragmatic delivers fit-for-purpose reporting solutions quickly and iteratively. Detail-oriented ensures accuracy and reconciliation in all outputs. Collaborative works closely with data engineers, analysts, and business teams. Curious & proactive continuously seeks improvements to reports and processes.
