Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive individual with a proven track record of writing successful bids that secure new business and drive growth.

This role is a key driver of our future success, shaping how we compete, win & maintain throughput by turning opportunities into lasting partnerships.

You will be part of a bidding team of five, including our Director of Commercial Services, to whom you report, and two Junior Bid Writers who you will mentor, develop & manage on a day-to-day basis.

In this role you will oversee the full bid lifecycle: from identifying opportunities and planning submissions, to delivering persuasive bids, professional pitches & leading continuous improvement to raise efficiency and win rates.

Managing our bid diary, monitoring bid status' & organising team workloads, you will lead by example, creating concise and exemplary bid content without reliance on AI.

The bids you create will sell a range of services, such as website design, intranet & app development, content-managed solutions, web hosting & website maintenance, mainly to public sector clients.

We have successfully secured places on public sector frameworks such as G-Cloud and Digital Outcomes & Specialists; you will manage the preparation of framework applications and renewals to ensure their continuation.

This role requires someone who can distil information about our digital solutions into clear, compelling value propositions often for a non-technical audience, while ensuring compliance with procurement rules, accuracy & commercial competitiveness.

You will combine persuasive, benefit-driven writing with strategic insight, creating polished proposals that stand out to evaluators, while using data and performance metrics to support our bidding strategy.

You will use and maintain a bid library of templates, proformas & case studies, and apply analysis of trends, feedback & competitor benchmarks to position each submission for the best chance of success.

You should share our commitment to continuous improvement, and be keen to improve processes and resources that enhance the quality, efficiency & effectiveness of our bids.

We are looking for a confident communicator with exceptional writing skills, strong commercial awareness & the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure. A proactive and resilient approach, along with proven bid writing experience is essential.

Duties



Bid strategy, qualification & positioning



Evaluate bid opportunities and recommend bid/no-bid/abandonment decisions. Propose and collate win themes, pain points & key bid context. Work as part of a team to identify and recommend the optimum technical solution in line with bid requirements. Gather and collate market intelligence on competitors and procurement trends. Coordinate framework submissions in line with business strategy.

Bid development & coordination



Manage the creation and coordination of bid content, ensuring compliance with client requirements, writing style & personalisation standards. Liaise with subject matter experts to develop technical and commercial responses. Ensure styling and branding are correctly applied to all bid documents. Ensure bid submissions are completed, reviewed & uploaded prior to deadlines. Lead and contribute to the delivery of professional presentations, including preparation of supporting resources and demonstrations. Coordinate completion of bid handover to internal teams.

Team management & resource planning



Coordinate our Bid Team to deliver bids in line with business targets and strategy. Manage Bid Team output to ensure alignment with business goals and targets. Manage and allocate work across the team, ensuring balanced workloads. Manage the team's diary of activity, ensuring accuracy & currency. Manage staff development to address knowledge and skills gaps. Manage the choice and tailoring of resources for each bid. Plan and schedule bid planning meetings.

Commercial



Prepare and validate commercial elements of bids, liaising & gaining sign off from the Director of Commercial Services prior to submission. Calculate bid pricing using approved pricing tools. Review contracts, support negotiation & flag issues for internal review. Prepare and secure client-signed quotations.

Monitoring, quality & continuous improvement



Log, monitor & report performance and progress metrics against bid targets. Maintain accurate records of bid outcomes and lessons learned. Solicit, obtain & collate data and feedback for ISO 9001 compliance and continuous improvement. Create and maintain an intuitive filing system for bid resources to ensure quality, accuracy, consistency & currency. Manage and maintain centralised bid libraries, templates & reference materials.

Skills



Exceptional persuasive writing and editing skills with excellent grammar - able to distil complex information into clear, customer-friendly copy. Strong verbal communication and presentation skills. Excellent attention to detail, proofreading and document styling. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and identify practical, effective solutions. Confident, creative user of Microsoft Word (including templates, styles, tables, version control, advanced formatting), PowerPoint (including custom layouts, smart graphics, sequencing) & Excel (including formulas, pivot tables, lookup functions, conditional formatting, data validation, macros). Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities. Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into compliant, competitive responses. Competent with web tools and apps, such as procurement platforms and collaboration tools - able to draw on colleagues' expertise when needed. A positive character who gives and receives constructive feedback with professionalism and openness.

Experience



Minimum 2 years' experience in a successful bid managerial role, ideally tendering technology or digital solutions. Proven track record of managing and winning complex bids, preferably within the public sector. Experience of writing professionally about technical services and working in a customer-facing environment. Demonstrable understanding of public sector procurement regulations, thresholds & frameworks.
Experience of supervising, mentoring or coordinating colleagues within a bid or related professional environment.

Experience of producing management information and supporting quality processes, such as ISO 9001 reporting, bid performance analysis & compliance audits. Desirable: experience working with WordPress or Umbraco CMS.

Qualifications



A good degree in a relevant subject such as Business Information Technology, Digital Marketing, Communication and Media, Creative Writing or similar.
