The post holder will support the 3D digital planning/imaging and research activity of the Maxillofacial Unit Laboratory, Morriston
Hospital. Provide a clinical technical service will assist with the day-to-day import and manipulation of various modalities of digital
clinical data such as 3D CT and MRI for the creation of prostheses, stents, guides, implants and other devices working under the
guidance of the Maxillofacial Prosthetists /Reconstructive Scientists within the department.
Competing demands on time requiring careful prioritisation of workload. Frequent periods of interruption will be encountered
throughout the working day with pressure to ensure cases are completed efficiently & effectively, understanding that inaccurate end
results could lead to the cancellation of surgical procedures.
Contribute to the ongoing research projects. This will include support with, co-ordination and submission of consequent data, the
completion of national and local regulatory documentation.
Whilst experience in clinical research processes would be advantageous, full training will be provided and this post can be
considered as a development post for those who wish to pursue a career within the NHS.
Coordinate requests and delivery of 3D data and physical rapid-prototype models.
Prioritisation of emergency and urgent requests ensuring that they are brought to attention of line manager.
Manual handling tasks include transportation of scanning equipment.
Import and manipulate 3D and 2D data into various specialized software packages.
Maintain and update various clinical and research databases.
Identify suitability of data requested and ensure integrity. Completes patient data integrity checks and patient file management in
local information system in line with National and Local policies and procedures relating to patient confidentiality and data
protection.
Completes specified training to acquire the underpinning knowledge and practical skills necessary to operate in the associated
healthcare working environment.
Downloads and imports variety of data from hospital IT infrastructure or locally stored media. Examines data and chooses
appropriate software package for the manipulation of data and carries this out.
Recognises when data integrity is compromised and alerts line manager.
Recognises limits of practice and refer line manager as required.

Makes decisions relating to sample/request suitability against quality standards.
Ensure quality control results are within accepted limits and ensure equipment /software is fit for purpose according to well defined
targets and limits.
Recognise and report failures or deviations from expected results taking appropriate corrective action and if necessary, refer to
Maxillofacial Prosthetist/ Reconstructive Scientist.
Assist planning, preparation and reporting on audits carried out against regulatory and legislative requirements.
Work independently without direct supervision where the Maxillofacial Prosthetist/Reconstructive Scientist may not be physically
present but there are processes in place for direction, guidance and support. Decisions on the level and type of supervision will be
