Job Summary
Salary: NHS Band 6 equivalent

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm (37.5 hours per week)

Location: 33 Grosvenor Place, London, SW1X 7HY

Contract: FTC ending May 2026
Join us during an exciting growth phase as we launch a new Insourced Pathology Services Laboratory. This role begins in project mode (approx. 5-6 months), where the role will be primarily 9am - 5pm. There will be an option once the service goes live to transition into a permanent Senior BMS position within the core laboratory team which will cover a 24/7 rota.
This is a unique opportunity for a Senior Biomedical Scientist to play a pivotal role in the setup and implementation of a new Insourced Pathology Services Laboratory, including the deployment of a new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
Initially operating in project mode, this position will report to the Laboratory Director and Pathology Quality Manager.
As a Biomedical Scientist, you'll perform diagnostic testing across biochemistry, haematology, and blood transfusion, ensuring accurate and timely results that support clinical decision-making. You'll contribute to assay validation, equipment maintenance, and quality systems aligned with ISO 15189:2022 and UKAS standards.
What will your duties include?
Initial Project Phase Responsibilities will include:Complete super-user training for LIMS and analysers. Develop SOPs, training materials, and competency programs. Lead validation, verification, and testing of assays/equipment to ISO 15189:2022 and MHRA standards. Collaborate with IT on LIMS implementation and testing. Design and establish lab workflows from the ground up.

Future responsibilities following the transition of the inhouse service would include:Train and support new BMS and MLA staff. Ensure a smooth transition to live operations. Carry out routine diagnostic work and maintain high-quality service delivery. Perform, validate, and authorise lab tests across biochemistry, haematology, and transfusion. Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment. Uphold UKAS standards and contribute to audits, EQA, and quality improvements. Accurately manage lab data in LIMS and communicate results to clinicians. Support reagent and consumable stock management.

What we need from you?BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent Experience working as a biomedical scientist within biochemistry HCPC registration Strong experience in test validation, SOP development, and staff training. Interest in hands-on project work (project management training not essential). Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills. Proficiency in LIMS, lab instruments, and ISO 15189:2022 standards Experience across multiple lab sections eg biochemistry, haematology, transfusion (desirable)*
Assay validation, R&D, and staff supervision experience (desirable)
