Boat Operator

Role Purpose




The Boat Operator will play a key role in supporting the safe and efficient extraction of sand from Lough Neagh. This position involves the operation and maintenance of vessels, ensuring compliance with our procedures and regulatory requirements, all while contributing to the smooth running of our lough-based extraction activities.



Key Responsibilities

Safely operate company vessels to support the extraction of sand from Lough Neagh; Assist with dredging operations, including the positioning and manoeuvring of boats; Carry out daily safety checks, minor routine maintenance and cleaning of vessels and associated equipment; Ensure compliance with maritime safety regulations, environment standards and Northstone's operational policies; Monitor equipment performance and promptly report any hazards or faults; Support the loading and unloading of material as required; Complete operational logs, records and documentation accurately; Work closely with other team members to ensure safe and efficient marine operations; Participate in health and safety briefings, training and emergency response drills.

Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria

Prior experience in operating and handling boats or marine vessels; Strong awareness of maritime safety practices; An ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions; Good communication and teamwork skills; Flexibility to work shifts and weekends as required; A safety first mindset and a commitment to environmental responsibility.
Desirable Criteria

Valid marine/boat handling qualifications or an equivalent certification; Experience in dredging, marine extraction or similar operations; Experience operating mobile plant, e.g shovel, tractor or digger; Mechanical or maintenance skills related to marine equipment; Knowledge of Lough Neagh water operations.
