We are a small accountancy practice based in Gravesend, specialising in the construction sector. We are looking for a
Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant
to join our team.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with current regulations.
Conduct bank reconciliations and control account management to ensure financial accuracy.
Assist in the preparation of accounts to trial balance and support senior accountants.
Communicate effectively with clients and HMRC regarding financial matters.
Handle administrative tasks, including answering incoming calls and redirecting messages as necessary.
Provide general support for the day-to-day operations of the business.
Carry out ad hoc administrative duties as needed.
Skills & Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have:
Strong knowledge of VAT regulations, Making Tax Digital (MTD), and the
Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
Experience with Xero, Sage, and QuickBooks accounting software.
Payroll experience (an advantage but not essential).
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
Great organisational and problem-solving skills.
Confidence, motivation, and exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written).
