We're looking for a reliable and detail-oriented
Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant
to join our London team. This hands-on role is ideal for someone with strong
Xero
experience who enjoys managing day-to-day financial operations -- including
cashbook, payroll, and general accounting
-- within a dynamic, international business environment.
About the role
You'll be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records across our UK operations. Your key duties will include:
Cashbook & Banking
Daily posting of all bank transactions into
Xero
Accurate coding of receipts and payments to the correct accounts and cost centres
Performing daily and monthly
bank reconciliations
, including foreign currency accounts
Managing
credit card
and
petty cash
reconciliations
Monitoring
cash flow
and preparing weekly summaries for management
Accounts Payable
Processing and coding supplier invoices
Managing creditor reconciliations and payment schedules
Preparing and processing
supplier pay runs
in Xero
Maintaining documentation for audit and compliance
Accounts Receivable
Raising customer invoices and posting receipts
Managing debtor listings and following up on overdue accounts
Reconciling customer accounts and maintaining accurate records
Payroll & Staff Expenses
Processing
monthly payroll
using Xero or linked payroll software
Ensuring compliance with
PAYE, NI, and pension
requirements
Preparing payroll journals and reconciling payroll accounts
Managing staff expense claims, travel reimbursements, and maintaining proper documentation
Liaising with HR and management to ensure timely and accurate payroll submission
Reporting & Compliance
Assisting with month-end and year-end close
Maintaining the
fixed asset register
Preparing
VAT returns
and other statutory filings
Generating and customising management reports in Xero
Supporting external accountants with information for annual accounts and audits
About you
You're an experienced and organised finance professional who takes pride in accuracy, reliability, and confidentiality. You'll ideally bring:
Minimum
3 years' experience
in bookkeeping, accounting, or payroll roles
Strong working knowledge of
Xero
(certification highly regarded)
Solid understanding of
UK payroll, PAYE, and VAT
processes
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
Clear communication skills and confidence liaising with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and work independently
A proactive, problem-solving mindset
Experience within a
logistics, freight forwarding, or professional services
environment will be an advantage.
