who loves football and is looking for a rewarding and flexible support role? We're seeking a
Support Worker
to be a companion and buddy to a 23-year-old male who sustained a brain injury at 14.
About the Role:
This is a unique opportunity to provide social support and companionship. You'll primarily be a "buddy" to our client, helping him engage in his hobbies and interests. A major part of the role will involve attending
Leicester City football matches
(he's a season ticket holder!).
No personal care is required.
What You'll Be Doing:
Accompanying the client to Leicester City football matches.
Engaging in shared hobbies and interests.
Providing companionship and social interaction.
Being a consistent and reliable presence.
Community Support:
Accompanying the client on outings in the local community, such as shopping, appointments, or social activities.
Providing encouragement and support to engage in community-based activities.
Assisting with navigating public transport or accompanying in their own vehicle (if applicable and insured).
Cognitive Support:
Providing consistent prompting and reminders for daily routines and tasks.
Using clear and simple communication, adapting to the client's pace and understanding.
Supporting the client with memory aids and strategies as recommended by healthcare professionals.
Maintaining a calm and supportive environment to minimise confusion and anxiety.
Communication and Record Keeping:
Maintaining clear and concise records of support provided.
Communicating effectively with family members and relevant healthcare professionals regarding the client's well-being and any concerns.
Reporting any changes in the client's condition or needs to the appropriate individuals.
Person-Centred Approach:
Treating the client with dignity, respect, and empathy at all times.
Respecting the client's choices and preferences.
Encouraging the client's independence and promoting their well-being.
Person Specification:
Essential:
Previous experience in a care or support role, preferably supporting individuals with cognitive difficulties or brain injuries.
A genuine passion for supporting others and a commitment to person-centred care.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and patiently.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.
Respectful of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with cognitive impairments.
Willingness to undertake relevant training.
Full driving license and access to a vehicle (may be required for community support).
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable:
Formal care qualifications (e.g., NVQ/QCF in Health and Social Care).
First Aid certification.
Experience in supporting individuals within their own homes and in the community.
Knowledge of local community resources in Leicester
