To plan, deliver, and evaluate safe, inclusive, and enjoyable gymnastics sessions in accordance with
British Gymnastics (BG)
standards and the club's coaching philosophy.
The coach is responsible for developing gymnasts' technical, physical, and personal skills while ensuring a fun and supportive training environment.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver structured gymnastics sessions in line with BG coaching principles and award schemes (e.g. Core Proficiency, Rise, or competition pathways).
Teach, demonstrate, and correct gymnastics techniques across relevant apparatus or disciplines.
Deliver sessions that meet the needs of participants -- from beginners to advanced gymnasts -- ensuring progression and enjoyment.
Follow BG's Safe Coaching Practice guidelines, including spotting, supervision, and risk assessment.
Set up, inspect, and safely store all gymnastics equipment.
Monitor and record attendance, gymnast development, and achievement of awards or competition readiness.
Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and the coaching team regarding progress and expectations.
Supervise and mentor Level 1 / assistant coaches, ensuring session quality and consistency.
Promote the club's ethos of fun, fitness, friendship, and achievement.
Attend BG professional development courses, club meetings, and safeguarding updates.
Support and prepare gymnasts for competitions, displays, or assessments as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
Current British Gymnastics Coaching Qualification (Level 1 or 2above, in relevant discipline).
Valid British Gymnastics Membership (Coach category).
Safeguarding and Protecting Children certificate.
First Aid qualification (Paediatric or Emergency First Aid preferred).
Experience coaching children or young people in a structured gymnastics setting.
Strong understanding of gymnastics progressions, conditioning, and safety procedures.
Desirable:
Level 3 or higher BG qualification.
Experience preparing gymnasts for competition, festivals, or displays.
Qualifications in complementary areas (e.g. choreography, flexibility, strength and conditioning, or sport science).
Understanding of child development, motivation, and inclusion in sport.
Key Skills and Attributes
