Job Description

Job Purpose

To deliver safe, progressive, inclusive and fun gymnastics coaching sessions in accordance with IGA standards and the club's coaching philosophy. The role involves working with gymnasts of varying ages and abilities (recreational and/or competitive) to foster physical literacy, technical development, gymnastic skill, confidence and enjoyment.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, prepare and deliver structured gymnastics coaching sessions in line with IGA coaching frameworks (e.g., levels, pathways) and club requirements. Teach and demonstrate correct gymnastics techniques across apparatus or floor work, ensuring progression appropriate to age, ability and IGA standards. Ensure the safety, welfare and well-being of all participants at all times, implementing correct spotting, equipment set-up, routine risk-assessment and safe practice. Provide constructive feedback to gymnasts, monitoring progress and motivating them through their developmental pathway. Support and administer IGA accreditation or competition entry where relevant (e.g., skills levels, GEMS, performance squads). Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, accidents/incidents and equipment checks. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, athletes and coaching team (including other IGA?qualified coaches) regarding progress, goals and session plans. Contribute to the ongoing development of the club's gymnastics programme, including planning curriculum, assisting in squad selection, and supporting club events, displays or competitions. Attend staff meetings, training sessions, professional development (CPD), safeguarding updates and other relevant IGA/club sessions.
Qualifications & Experience

Essential:



IGA Coach Qualification (Level 2 or equivalent) or higher. IGA UK+2IGA UK+2 Up-to-date Safeguarding & Child Protection training and DBS/Disclosure check (where applicable). IGA UK+1 First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain). Experience coaching children and/or young people in gymnastics or related movement discipline. Good knowledge of gymnastics progressions, equipment, safety/spotting practices and IGA pathway frameworks.

Desirable:



Higher level IGA (or equivalent) qualification (Level 3/4) or experience in competitive gymnastics. Previous experience preparing gymnasts for competitions, displays, or IGA events. Additional qualification in strength & conditioning, sports science, dance or flexibility. Experience working with mixed ages and abilities (including beginners, recreational, and advanced athletes).
Key Skills & Attributes

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (with gymnasts, parents, staff). Strong technical knowledge of gymnastics: apparatus, floor, development progressions and skill-acquisition. Ability to plan and adapt sessions to suit mixed ability groups and evolving athlete needs. Motivational, enthusiastic and supportive approach; strong role-model for gymnasts. Organised, time-efficient and able to maintain accurate records. Committed to continuous professional development and staying updated with IGA standards and best practice in coaching and safeguarding. Inclusive mindset: able to foster a positive, safe and welcoming environment for all gymnasts regardless of age, background or ability.

Pay: 9.00-25.00 per hour
