South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Building Team Leader to join our Estates and Facilities team at Maudsley Hospital in Camberwell.
As the Building Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading a team of building trade staff in delivering high-quality repair, maintenance, and minor works across our facilities. This role is essential to maintaining a safe, functional, and therapeutic environment for our service users, staff, and visitors.
Main Responsibilities
Lead a team of multi-skilled building operatives, managing day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and small-scale construction projects.
Plan and coordinate preventative and reactive maintenance of building fabric, finishes, fixtures, and fittings.
Ensure all works are carried out in compliance with NHS regulations, health & safety standards, and statutory building codes.
Work closely with Estates Officers, clinical teams, and contractors to minimise disruption to services.
Maintain accurate records using the Trust's CAFM system and contribute to reports, audits, and inspections.
Support compliance with fire safety, security, and infection control requirements related to the built environment.
Supervise contractors and monitor the quality and safety of work delivered.
Participate in the on-call rota and respond to emergency situations as required.
What We're Looking For
A qualified building tradesperson (e.g. NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent) in carpentry, plastering, brickwork, or general building maintenance.
Demonstrable experience supervising or leading a small team in a facilities or estates management setting.
Strong working knowledge of building maintenance systems, health & safety legislation, and construction best practices.
Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands.
Experience working in healthcare, public sector, or a similar complex environment is desirable.
