UKLST is a provider of linguistic services, dedicated to bridging communication gaps in critical sectors such as healthcare, legal services, and government. We are seeking a highly skilled and culturally aware Burmese Language Interpreter to join our UK-based team, providing accurate and confidential interpretation services.

Role Summary

The Burmese Language Interpreter will facilitate seamless communication between English and Burmese speakers, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and neutrality in all interpreted conversations. This role supports individuals across various settings, upholding the highest standards of professional conduct and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

Provide Interpretation:

Deliver high-quality consecutive, simultaneous, and/or ad-hoc interpretation between English and Burmese for various assignments (e.g., medical appointments, legal proceedings, business meetings, social services).

Maintain Accuracy:

Accurately convey the meaning and tone of the source language into the target language without adding, omitting, or substituting content.

Adhere to Ethics:

Strictly adhere to professional codes of conduct, including maintaining impartiality and absolute confidentiality at all times.

Cultural Sensitivity:

Demonstrate a high degree of cultural awareness and sensitivity to manage potentially complex or sensitive interactions effectively.

Preparation:

Review briefing materials and terminology relevant to the assignment topic prior to interpretation sessions.

Documentation:

Complete necessary administrative tasks, including logging assignments and submitting required documentation promptly.
Essential Requirements

Fluency in Languages:

Native or Near-Native Fluency in Burmese (All Dialects):

Must be highly proficient in both spoken and written Burmese.

Fluent in English:

Excellent command of the English language, including comprehension of complex and technical terminology.

UK Residency:

Must be legally eligible to work and permanently reside in the United Kingdom.

Communication Skills:

Exceptional listening, memory retention, and articulate verbal communication skills in both languages.
Desirable Attributes (A Strong Plus Point)

Interpreting Qualifications:

Possession of a formal interpreting qualification, such as: DPSI (Diploma in Public Service Interpreting) CIOL Qualifications Level 6 Diploma in Interpreting (DipInt) An equivalent recognised language or interpreting certification.

Professional Experience:

Proven experience working as a professional interpreter in a formal setting (e.g., medical, legal, community).

Subject Matter Expertise:

Prior experience or background knowledge in a specialist sector (e.g., Legal terminology, NHS procedures, or government services).
Job Types: Part-time, Freelance

Pay: 15.00-20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 2 per week

Work Location: On the road
