About the Role
We're looking for a dynamic and commercially-minded
Retail Business Development Manager
to lead our brand-new
Workwear & PPE retail store
in
Burton upon Trent
. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a new location, build a loyal customer base, and grow both in-store sales and B2B trade relationships.
You'll be responsible for all aspects of
retail operations, team leadership, customer experience, and business development
, driving the success of the store from day one.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales Management:
Drive store sales to meet or exceed targets and KPIs.
Monitor performance metrics (conversion rates, basket size, UPT, etc.) and implement improvement strategies.
Execute promotions, upselling and cross-selling techniques to maximize sales.
Analyse sales trends and identify opportunities to increase revenue.
Operational Management:
Oversee day-to-day store operations including opening, closing, cash handling, and compliance with company policies.
Ensure the store is well-maintained, clean, organized, and fully stocked.
Manage stock levels, ordering, and deliveries to maintain product availability and minimize shrinkage.
Implement and uphold health and safety regulations in the workplace.
Customer Service:
Maintain exceptional customer service standards, ensuring all staff provide knowledgeable, friendly service.
Handle complex customer issues and complaints professionally and effectively.
Train team members in customer engagement and product knowledge, especially around PPE and industry-specific workwear needs.
Team Leadership:
Recruit, train, and manage store staff including scheduling, performance management, and professional development.
Lead by example, motivating the team to achieve sales and service targets.
Conduct regular team briefings, one-on-ones, and appraisals.
Reporting & Compliance:
Maintain accurate records of sales, staff performance, inventory, and operational issues.
Ensure compliance with company policies, legal standards, and financial procedures.
Prepare and present sales and operational reports to senior management.
Person Specification:
Essential Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in a retail management role,
essential
in workwear, PPE, or trade-related sectors.
Strong sales and customer service background.
Excellent leadership and team management skills.
Sound knowledge of retail operations, stock control, and visual merchandising.
Ability to analyse data and create action plans to improve performance.
Desirable:
Experience with B2B or trade accounts in addition to in-store retail sales.
Familiarity with health & safety compliance, particularly around PPE.
Knowledge of ERP/POS systems and retail analytics tools.

Qualifications:
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths required.

Full-time, including weekends as required.
Store-based role with travel for meeting, training or multi-site support.
