We are a high-growth, acquisition-driven business expanding our national footprint. As we scale, we will build a commercial team of Business Development Managers -- and this role is designed for someone who wants to grow into senior leadership as that team develops.

Role Overview



The Business Development Manager will drive new revenue, strengthen client relationships, and support the continuous improvement of our sales systems and processes. You will be measured on output, not input, with autonomy to manage your diary, site visits, and national travel -- including overnight stays.

You will work closely with our Marketing Manager to align outreach, campaigns, events and pipeline generation, while reporting directly to the CEO and playing a key part in shaping the next phase of our commercial growth.

Key Responsibilities



New Business & Outreach Strategy



You will lead structured and proactive outreach across the developer and architectural sectors, including:

Targeted outbound campaigns using CRM, email sequences and personalised messaging. Daily structured outreach to developers, architects and construction firms. Following planning applications, tender portals and new project announcements. Attending regional and national events, expos, and CPD opportunities. Identifying early-stage projects and positioning us as the preferred compliance partner. Working with the Marketing Manager to convert inbound leads efficiently. Creating and executing outreach strategies tailored to specific client segments.
Your goal is to build a strong, predictable pipeline of compliance and testing services.

Client Relationship Management & Cross-Selling



Develop long-term relationships with key clients to secure ongoing work. Understand client requirements and proactively recommend additional services. Cross-sell services including SAP, Overheating, Ventilation, Acoustic and Air Pressure testing. Ensure clients view us as a trusted, reliable technical partner. Provide regular updates to the CEO on pipeline health and client feedback.

Commercial Proposals & Sales Execution



Prepare structured proposals and tender responses. Manage negotiations and close deals independently. Attend on-site meetings, project kick-offs, and technical discussions. Represent the company professionally at all times.

Systems, CRM & Process Improvement



Enhance CRM workflows to support scalability and clarity across the sales cycle. Improve reporting, forecasting, and visibility of commercial KPIs. Work closely with operations to ensure smooth handovers once work is secured. Help shape the infrastructure needed to support a future multi-BDM department.

Marketing Collaboration



Working side-by-side with the Marketing Manager, you will:

Align sales outreach with campaign activity and content calendars. Help create sector-specific materials, case studies and event strategies. Feed insights from the field into marketing so campaigns improve over time. Support branded CPD events, breakfast mornings and industry networking initiatives.

Skills & Experience Required



Essential



Experience in compliance, construction, energy consultancy or building services. Proven B2B business development success. Strong understanding of developer and architectural markets. Confident communicator with excellent relationship-building ability. Comfortable with national travel and overnight stays. CRM experience with a focus on improving systems, not just using them. Highly organised with disciplined follow-up habits.

Desirable



Experience selling compliance services or technical testing (SAP, Acoustics, Ventilation, Air Pressure). Experience in a high-growth or acquisition-led organisation.
