The Payments Association (TPA) is a commercial trade association of payments industry influencers. It delivers eight projects to drive change, helps to connect the ecosystem, encourages innovation and profitable business growth and runs more than 70 events each year. The TPA's vision is for the UK to be the global hotspot for payments innovation. The TPA has over 225 members and grew at 60% last year alone. Its members come from across the payments value chain; including payments schemes, banks and issuers, merchant acquirers, PSPs, retailers, and more. These companies have come together, from across the UK and internationally, to join our association, collaborate, and speak with a unified voice.


Due to ongoing growth, the TPA is now looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to join the team. This is a very strategically important role focused on securing membership sales for our fast-growing business in the payments industry, based in Monument, London. Reporting to the Membership Sales Manager, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for selling membership of the TPA to companies in the banking, payments, FinTech and PayTech sectors.


The successful candidate will have at least 3 years' experience in association membership, event or conference sponsorship sales gained within a financial or technology environment. They will be self-motivated, target-oriented, ready to leap straight in and will be an effective team player. The role will require an intelligent, insight- led sales approach to the levels of membership and the suite of sponsorship opportunities, considering the potential to cross-sell between products.

Main Responsibilities



Secure membership revenues

in line with the association needs and personal sales targets

Generate new business

, qualifying strategic selling opportunities and target market/clients

Generate sales

through development and maintenance of tactical and strategic relationships with clients

Understand your client's explicit business needs

and requirements in a fast-moving market is essential to the role, and therefore you will need to keep up to date with industry news and trends and apply your consultative sales skills to ensure we offer the most suitable solutions to each client

Conduct ongoing sales activity

and close via telephone, as well as face to face

Produce quality proposals

and contracts to aid the sales process, providing innovative solutions based upon a deep understanding of product offering

Explore new commercial opportunities

, product development and new revenue lines to optimise revenue performance across the business.

Support and work collaboratively

with the Marketing, Conference Production, Member Engagement, Operations, Project and Finance teams and proactively participating in other areas whenever relevant

Drive a consultative sales approach

across the team

Contribute to a high performing sales culture

within the team that meets the KPIs agreed

Manage own sales pipeline and database

- overall responsibility for updating and maintaining sales related data

Develop key accounts and existing client relationships

, identifying and converting opportunities to cross/up-sell

Attend key competitor events

Log accurately

About You




This is an unrivalled opportunity for someone who has plenty of drive and enthusiasm for digital sales. We are ideally looking for someone with experience and knowledge in the Payments/Tech industry and with a clear interest in being a pivotal member of the team. This role will require self-discipline and motivation. The ideal candidate will have wide-ranging media knowledge, excellent commercial acumen, great communication skills, and a proven track record of selling to senior stakeholders.
