The National Energy Foundation (NEF) is a charity dedicated to promoting energy efficiency and alleviating fuel poverty across the UK. We exist to end fuel poverty and enable the low carbon retrofit of UK households. With this mission to create a sustainable energy future, we primarily work directly with householders to support them, supported by various stakeholders to drive positive change in the energy sector and to support vulnerable household across the UK.

Role Overview:



NEF is seeking a Business Development Officer responsible for two keys areas:

1. Primarily, your focus will be to craft compelling, quality driven and compliant bid proposals to secure contracts or funding. You will analyse bid requirements, develop compelling narratives, and often manage the bid process from start to finish, often working with various stakeholders and subject matter experts. The range of submissions will be varied, from formal tender opportunities to speculative approaches. The range of submission types will also be varied, from strict template submissions to personally developed brochures and presentations.

2. An element of your role will also include market analysis, horizon scanning, stakeholder engagement and relationship management. You will work alongside colleagues to help deliver our business development strategy, identifying opportunities, attending events, liaising with potential funders and effectively 'selling' NEF and the services we deliver.

Key Responsibilities:



Opportunity identification: You will horizon scan for opportunities, undertake market research and ensure you are accessing all relevant portals, frameworks and mailing lists.

Tender Analysis: You will thoroughly assess opportunities to understand tender requirements, specifications, and evaluation criteria.

Proposal Development: A key aspect of the role will be writing, editing and tailoring bid responses to meet specific requirements and demonstrate excellent value.

Content Creation: You will develop compelling narratives, executive summaries, case studies, and other proposal content.

Stakeholder Collaboration: You may need to work with subject matter experts and other stakeholders (internal and external) to gather information and ensure proposal quality.

Relationship Management: You will act as a champion of NEF, liaising with current and potential funders to maximise opportunities for NEF.

Bid Management: You may be asked to manage the bid timeline, coordinate contributions, and ensure timely submission of proposals.

Quality Assurance: You will ensure bids are accurate, consistent, and aligned with NEFs values and win themes.

Research: You will conduct research to support bid development and demonstrate market knowledge.

Event Coordination: You will act as the face of NEF at relevant external events and conferences etc, sometimes leading our involvement in these, and other forums.

Skills and Experience:



Excellent Writing and Communication: Strong ability to write clear, concise, and persuasive content.

Strong Research Skills: Ability to gather and analyse information from various sources.

Time Management and Organization: Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.

Attention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy and consistency in all written materials.

Stakeholder and Relationship Management: Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders to effectively 'sell' NEF.

Knowledge of fuel poverty and the energy sector: Whilst you many not start with this experience, we would expect you to develop a solid understanding of this market quickly. This should include understanding of the issues facing people in fuel poverty and the services on offer to support them.

Experience with Bid Processes: Understanding of the end-to-end bid lifecycle.

Analytical mindset with the ability to analyse data and draw actionable insights.

Self-motivated, results-driven, and adaptable to changing environments.

Experience working with diverse stakeholders and managing complex projects.

Confident public speaking and presentational skills.

Pay: 26,000.00-30,000.00 per year
