Would you relish the challenge of working for the policing unit that deals with some of the most serious, organised, and violent criminals in the region?

The East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) is offering an exciting opportunity for a Year in Industry (YII) placement to join us in our dynamic and fast-paced environment for a minimum of 10 months within the 2024/25 academic year.

EMSOU focuses on intelligence gathering and finding innovative ways to disrupt and investigate serious and organised crime, homicide, and terrorism, on behalf of the five East Midlands police forces. We are also a national leader in the provision of forensic services for the region.

Our expertise and specialist capabilities are drawn upon from our five forces to tackle people, drugs and firearms trafficking, cyber crime, fraud and money laundering, prison corruption, murder and other serious assaults, along with terrorism and extremism.

We are looking for people with an inquisitive mind-set, a positive attitude to problem solving and learning new skills, and the ability to apply new knowledge and experience across a range of challenges. We are currently offering a placement opportunity within the Cyber Resilience Centre.

Key Accountabilities

  • To communicate with law enforcement professionals and external partners to ensure that customer requirement is understood, and any results are concisely conveyed.
  • Maintain information security in line with national and organisational policies and procedures during and after the placement period.
  • Undertake such other duties commensurate with the post as may be required for the safe & effective performance of the job. This role description should develop along with changing demands of policing reflected in organisational objectives and priorities.
The must haves
  • To be enrolled in an undergraduate degree, having successfully completed the first two years of study and with full support of your university for a placement / year in industry. Relevant disciplines may include, but are not limited to - Business Studies; Business Management; Business Management and Economics; International Business; Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation
  • Experience of delivering written reports and verbal briefings, outlining risks, findings, results and recommendation.
  • Have an ability to work effectively as part of a team, but also independently and using your own initiative.
