The Business Operations Manager (BOM) is responsible for providing strong leadership across all operational functions at Switch Up, ensuring that the organisation runs efficiently, meets compliance standards, and delivers high-quality services.
The BOM will:
Embed Switch Up's vision, mission, and values across all operational areas.
Oversee compliance and quality assurance across HR, finance, IT, communications, and business development.
Ensure operational teams and community facilities operate safely, effectively, and deliver excellent outcomes.
Support the CEO in achieving the organisation's strategy and readiness for growth.
Lead, develop, and empower operational teams, fostering a culture of high performance and collaboration.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Strategy & Development
Work with the CEO and Trustees to develop and review the organisation's Business Plan.
Develop and maintain action plans for internal operations, including HR, communications, compliance, IT, business development, and community sports facilities.
Establish and maintain strategic relationships with funders, commissioners, partners, and stakeholders.
2. Leadership
Lead recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and performance management for operational teams.
Support Workstream Leads to develop, implement, and review team action plans and KPIs.
Oversee new projects from concept to implementation, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
Foster a collaborative, supportive team culture across all operational areas.
3. Operations Management
Ensure robust systems and processes are in place for HR, compliance, finance, IT, communications, and facilities management.
Manage resources and suppliers efficiently to meet organisational needs.
Act as the organisational lead for compliance, including HR, Health & Safety, GDPR, Alternative Provision, and funding contract requirements.
Oversee facility management, including maintenance, safety procedures, staff scheduling, and cleanliness across sites.
4. Monitoring & Quality Assurance
Lead quality assurance for all operational teams to ensure compliance and excellence.
Monitor, collect, and report on performance data for Trustees, funders, and internal stakeholders.
Ensure operational processes are efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with organisational values.
5. Finance
Prepare and manage budgets in collaboration with the CEO and Finance Officer.
Identify income generation opportunities to support long-term financial sustainability.
Ensure all operational spending delivers value for money.
6. Marketing & Communications
Support and guide the development of Switch Up's communications strategy.
Promote Switch Up's work to local and national audiences through presentations, media engagement, and events.
Ensure consistent messaging and visibility for all organisational initiatives.
7. Organisational Duties
Work flexibly, including unsociable hours as required.
Demonstrate commitment to Switch Up's values, strategy, and ambitions.
Participate in training, performance reviews, and continuous professional development.
Maintain compliance with all policies and contribute to ongoing process improvement.
Skills & Qualifications
Significant leadership experience in operational management, ideally in charitable or community-focused organisations.
Proven experience managing multiple teams across HR, finance, IT, communications, and facilities.
Strong knowledge of compliance requirements, including Health & Safety, GDPR, HR policies, and funding contracts.
Excellent organisational, planning, and administrative skills.
Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Effective communicator, capable of engaging with staff, stakeholders, and external partners.
Ability to work flexibly and manage competing priorities.
IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office 365 and management systems.
