About the Role
We're seeking an experienced and commercially minded Business Rates Surveyor to join our growing team in London. This is a client-facing role involving the management of rating appeals, valuations, and negotiations across a range of property sectors, including office, retail, industrial, and specialist use assets. You will support clients by minimising their business rates liabilities and ensuring compliance with current legislation and deadlines.
You'll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary firm, working alongside valuation, agency, and lease advisory professionals, with access to strong administrative and technical support.
About you
You are a qualified rating professional with a strong technical understanding of the business rates system in England and Wales. You take a proactive approach to case management and client service, with excellent negotiation and report writing skills. You're confident engaging with clients, presenting advice, and representing them at Valuation Tribunal if required.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide business rates advice to clients across commercial property sectors
Manage Check, Challenge and Appeal (CCA) processes
Prepare and submit rating appeals and negotiate with the VOA
Analyse rental and valuation evidence for submission
Liaise with clients, local authorities and professional bodies
Represent clients at Valuation Tribunal hearings where appropriate
Prepare reasoned reports, advice letters, and valuation calculations
Maintain accurate case records and deadlines within internal systems
Contribute to client pitches and business development initiatives
Stay abreast of relevant legislation and case law affecting rating
Essential Skills and Experience
MRICS, IRRV (Hons), or RSA qualified
Proven experience in business rates or valuation surveying
Strong understanding of rating legislation and VOA procedures
Confident negotiator with excellent written and verbal communication
Client-focused with commercial awareness and attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office and valuation software
Strong time management and ability to prioritise a varied caseload
Desirable Skills and Experience
Experience representing clients at Valuation Tribunal
Exposure to a broad portfolio including retail, office, and industrial assets
Experience with property technology platforms or databases
Interest in mentoring junior team members
Business development experience or client portfolio responsibility
