Providing high-quality, ethically sourced meat is a cornerstone of our offering, and we're on the lookout for a butcher to help our growing team prepare and present exceptional products for our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Butchery Support:
Assist in breaking down carcasses, trimming, deboning, and preparing cuts of meat under the guidance of senior butchers. Prepare value-added products like sausages, burgers, and marinades according to established recipes.
Preparation & Organization:
Weigh, package, label, and price products accurately. Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized workstation, including sharpening and sanitizing tools. Assist with inventory stocking and rotation, ensuring FIFO (first-in, first-out).
Customer Service & Sales:
Provide knowledgeable and friendly service to customers, answering questions about cuts, cooking methods, and provenance. Help to create attractive displays in the counter to maximize sales.
Learning & Development:
Learn core butchery techniques for a variety of meats (e.g., beef, lamb, pork, poultry). Participate in training to improve skills in whole-animal butchery and product development.
Safety & Compliance:
Adhere to all food safety, hygiene, and health and safety standards (e.g., safe use of equipment, cross-contamination prevention). Follow all environmental health department regulations and company protocols.
Qualifications:
1-2 years of experience in a professional butchery or meat department preferred.
Basic knowledge of meat cuts, tools, and equipment.
Willingness to learn and take direction from senior staff.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
Strong attention to detail and time-management skills.
A friendly demeanor and good communication skills for customer interaction.
Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy cuts of meat (up to 25kg).
Ability to tolerate working in a cold environment and perform repetitive tasks using sharp tools.
