We are currently recruiting for a Buyer on behalf of our Client, a growing business based in Bicester

Reporting Line



The Buyer will report to the Head of Supply Chain

Department Overview



The Procurement function within the business is responsible for ensuring the purchase of all direct and indirect spend for production and the facilities in a timely manner, maintaining strong relationships with the supply base and cost reduction. It is part of the wider Operations function, which includes, Manufacturing, Facilities, Operational Support and Finance.

The Role



The buyer role will be responsible for the day-to-day order management of the factory. From request for quote process to order placement and expediting till delivery.

The buyer will need to build close relationships with their key suppliers to understand lead time management as well as identify cost-saving opportunities and risk factors.

Working closely with production, stores, and quality teams to ensure the smooth availability of parts for production requirements.

The role is open to growth for a buyer ready to take the next step and become more commercially involved in contract negotiations and category management

Key Responsibilities



Supplier Relationship



Build strong relationships with suppliers to have good lead time data for planning stock levels Strong Expediting skills and commitment to ensuring suppliers maintain a strong on-time in-full Negotiate with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, favourable terms, and timely delivery. Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify trends, pricing, and product opportunities. Assist in monitoring trends and identifying potential risks or opportunities in the market.

Production support



Collaborate with the Production and engineering teams to implement effective buying strategies to meet production planning. RFQ and quotations for category spend Purchase Order placement and expediting Monitor inventory levels to make informed decisions on stock replenishment and product assortment. Work closely with the Stores team to ensure they know the delivery schedule and capacity planning for the warehouse

Quality



Liaising with the Quality and Supplier Development Engineers to address and non-conformances Ensuring all certifications that are required from suppliers and received and recorded in a timely manner. Resolve issues promptly Highlight risks and impact on production plans

Person Specification



Education, Qualifications and Experience



REQUIRED



A-levels to demonstrate an acceptable level of numeracy and literacy Strong experience of procurement and order management, ideally in a manufacturing environment. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of spreadsheets, presentation software and other stock management software and systems such as ERP / MRP. Strong financial knowledge

PREFERRED



CIPS Qualification preferred but not essential. Ideally Degree educated Engineering background or experience

TECHNICAL



Excellent analytical and numerical skills to interpret data and make data-driven decisions. Excellent attention to detail Some contract law experience for details on order management A good understanding of logistics and supply chain management Strong incoterm knowledge

COMMUNICATION



Strong communication and negotiation skills to build and maintain relationships with suppliers Strong presenting and influencing skills Strong ability to know when to escalate and when to keep management aware of situations

TEAMWORKING



Ability to relate well to others, and build cooperative and collaborative working relationships, both internally and externally Ability to build good rapport with other departments to understand demands and resolve issues as well as communicate issues

ORGANISING AND TIME MANAGEMENT

Work Environment



This role will based in Bicester but may require occasional visits to joint-venture sites and supplier locations.
