At our Vending Centre of Excellence (VCE) in Keighley we design, manufacture and distribute semi-automated and fully automated key cutting machines and photobooths. These machines are installed by our fantastic team of field engineers into the UK's leading retailers such as B&Q, Tesco, The Range, Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury's and many more.

The Role



An exciting opportunity has arisen for a CAD Engineer, reporting into the Operations Manager, to join our dynamic development team. This role will be a permanent, full-time position working out of our Vending Centre of Excellence in Keighley, West Yorkshire.

As world leaders in key cutting and automation technology, we are looking for an imaginative individual with a strong mechanical engineering background. You will be involved in developing both current products and exciting new product lines. Our flagship product, the Timpson Key Machine 1, is an advanced automated key cutting machine that incorporates the latest in key cutting technology.

This role is primarily SolidWorks based, where you'll be expected to create and update models, drawings, and assemblies. The ideal candidate will have a strong design bias toward design for assembly and manufacturing, with experience in designing for sheet metal and CNC machining being essential. Experience with SolidWorks PDM is desirable.

You will be managing products from the design phase through to prototyping, testing, and into production. You'll work closely with a talented team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers and communicate regularly with suppliers, manufacturers, subcontractors, customers, and field engineers.

The successful candidate will be highly enthusiastic and passionate about engineering, and not afraid to roll their sleeves up and wield a spanner in a machine if necessary.

Occasional travel within the UK may be necessary as part of this role.

Key Responsibilities



To design state-of-the-art automated machines

To create SolidWorks models and detail drawings

To work closely with factory colleagues to ensure the products are designed for assembly

To work closely with manufacturers to ensure the products are designed for manufacture

To order parts where appropriate

To build and assess prototypes

To collate and upkeep BOMs

To design to all relevant UK and International standards

To respond to change requests from factory and field colleagues

To create change notes in a timely manner

To create working documents, such as Works Instructions and User Manuals

To undertake any other task deemed necessary by the Operations Manager

You should have:



Good 3D SolidWorks experience - other CAD packages considered

Experience in designing for manufacture and assembly

Experience in designing for sheet metal and CNC machining

Project management experience

Good understanding of engineering design principles

Good general IT skills, including Microsoft Office

Meticulous attention to detail

Good communication skills, through a variety of mediums

Excellent team player

Excellent work ethic

Ability to work on own initiative

Hands on capability

HNC or equivalent in an Engineering degree, Mechanical Engineering preferred but not essential.

At least 2 years' experience in an engineering design role is required.
