WHAT TO EXPECT

The successful candidate will be responsible for the structural analysis and development of Chassis Components, Systems and Interfaces in support of the JLR Cycle Plan.

Working as part of a team of CAE engineers, this role will include

  • Detailed Finite Element Analysis of chassis structural components (e.g. Subframes, Knuckles, Suspension Links, Wheels, etc) against defined analysis standards and procedures
  • Detailed assessment of chassis interfaces against defined analysis standards and procedures
  • Clear reporting of analysis results and recommendations to allow development of parts
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Support development of Automotive Components/ Systems using engineering knowledge and experience combined with Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) techniques, to meet chassis performance targets
  • Run CAE analysis, summarise results and feedback conclusions to colleagues
  • Work with design teams to develop and optimise solutions considering multi-attributes within defined deadlines and time constraints
  • Utilise product knowledge and awareness of potential design constraints (packaging, manufacturing etc.) to ensure due consideration is given in developing solutions
  • Support projects and teams including the feedback of results as required through design / project reviews
  • Support and present at design reviews with key stakeholders: Centre of Competence component design teams, PAT teams, packaging teams, Programme teams
  • Work with the Subject Matter Experts (SME\'s) to ensure project documentation for each project is maintained
WHAT YOU NEED
  • Industry experience in structural finite element analysis
  • Experience of root cause analysis using engineering logic and FEA
  • Knowledge of material properties, material selection and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to understand, interpret and clearly communicate Finite Element Analysis results
  • Competence in component development using engineering experience and CAE tools
Desirable:
  • Previous experience within product engineering delivery departments
  • Previous experience of chassis component/ system level development using CAE to meet defined performance targets
  • Experience in detailed structural FEA methods to include
  • Contact problems
  • Component assemblies (bolted joints, interference fits)
  • Mass/ stiffness/ stress optimisation analyses
  • Non linear material behaviour (material plasticity)
  • Non linear structural behaviour and responses
  • Explicit (time domain analysis) of dynamic load cases
  • Thermal analysis
  • Fatigue analysis
