Scran Academy is an Edinburgh youth work charity, supporting young people facing poverty and trauma to succeed through our innovative education and employment programmes. We exist to alleviate poverty and provide opportunities for all young people, no matter their background or barrier. We do this by creating real-life experiences and positive adult relationships in professional kitchen settings that help shine a light on the strengths and aspirations of young people.

We're currently looking for a talented, experienced hospitality professional to join the frontline team in our exciting new cafe site at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People. The successful candidate will be an experienced

all-rounder, confident in both kitchen and front-of-house environments

. They will bring strong catering and food preparation skills to ensure smooth back-of-house operations, while also being a welcoming host with excellent communication skills, providing great service and customer care at the front of house.

They will be instinctively organised and process-driven, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and due diligence in both kitchen and service areas. They will also be deeply passionate about maximising the potential of all young people and ready to maintain a professional environment that supports and welcomes young people from diverse backgrounds and unmet needs. Our Cafe Supervisor will therefore be ready to inspire and be inspired by young people. Working with placements on our employability programme will be an integral part of the role, supporting many in what might be their first professional experience, so compassion, patience, and a non-judgemental approach are essential.

About the Role



This is not your average cafe role. This is an exciting opportunity to shape our flagship employability cafe within the NHS Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, supporting young people to thrive in a professional catering environment. This role sits at the heart of our dynamic charity and is critical to delivering both strong business outcomes and meaningful social impact.

The role provides essential support to the cafe leadership team by

modelling outstanding kitchen skills

, maintaining high standards of food preparation and service, while also

confidently engaging with customers

and supporting front-of-house operations. You will work closely with the Kitchen Manager to ensure compliance, logistics, and hygiene standards are maintained to the highest level, and that the cafe operates seamlessly within the hospital environment.

This role is also central to maintaining the cafe and kitchen as a learning and employment environment for vulnerable young people. A core part of the work will be

coaching and mentoring young people in professional kitchen and service skills

, helping them gain confidence, experience, and employability.

The post provides day-to-day supervisory support for the team. Full operational and pedagogical training will be provided through a thorough induction to ensure the post holder is fully equipped to succeed in this highly rewarding role.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 24,749.00-27,272.00 per year
