Job Description

Role Purpose:

The Cafe Supervisor will support the Cafe Manager in the smooth day-to-day running of the cafe, leading the team during service, ensuring high standards of food quality, hygiene, and customer care. This role suits someone confident, hands-on, and passionate about great service, with an eye for detail and the ability to motivate others.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise day-to-day cafe operations in the absence or support of the Cafe Manager.

Lead, train, and support team members and volunteers during shifts.

Maintain excellent customer service and presentation standards.

Ensure all food hygiene, safety, and cleaning practices are followed.

Assist with stock rotation, ordering, and deliveries.

Operate tills, handle cash, and ensure accurate daily takings.

Help prepare and serve food and drinks to a consistent standard.

Support with special events and catering as required.

Report any maintenance, staffing, or supply issues to the Cafe Manager.

Person Specification:

Essential:

Previous experience in a cafe, restaurant, or catering environment.

Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification.

Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Confident leading others and supporting less-experienced team members.

Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail.

Reliable, flexible, and able to work weekends and bank holidays.

Desirable:

Experience supervising or training staff in a hospitality setting.

Interest in heritage railways or community-led projects.

Barista or food preparation experience.

First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain).
