Bridge House is a purpose-built residential home, which provides 24/7 home-from-home living for 16 residents with varying needs, including dementia.
We are looking for a skilled Cook to prepare and serve nutritionally balanced, attractively presented, and delicious meals for our wonderful residents. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring compliance with relevant Health & Safety and Food Hygiene practices and requirements.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a domestic style kitchen, preparing meals from scratch, and ensuring adherence to food safety standards simultaneously. You will have a high level of autonomy, but will also collaborate with the wider team. We employ two cooks to ensure full coverage of x7 days per week.
Hours: 18 hours per week (which includes every other weekend)
Pay: 13.00 per hour
Shift: 7:45am - 1:45pm (6 hours)
Rota:
Week 1 = Monday, Saturday, Sunday.
Week 2 = Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook menu items in accordance with recipes and quality standards
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen workspace
- Monitor food stock levels and communicate replenishment needs
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and guidelines
- Regularly meet with the residents to acquire food choices, and ensure food quality satisfaction
- Report and record any situations which might be considered hazardous, including mishaps
Experience:
- Proven experience as a care home Cook or similar Cook role
- Understanding of kitchen operations
- Understanding of care home operations processes
- Ability to work well independently and in a care team environment
- Ability to modify working practices in accordance with latest regulations
- Understanding of food safety principles and practices
Personal qualities:
- A personable demeaner with patience and understanding
- Excellent communication skills with colleagues, with ability to direct and manage workflow
- The ability to adapt communication approach to residents with varying needs
- Experience engaging and working alongside residents with dementia, or a willingness to learn
