Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated General Assistant to provide support in the kitchen, domestic and laundry functions of our Care Home for older Adults. The ideal candidate will have experience in either of the three areas (kitchen, domestic and laundry) and a strong understanding of the need for attention to detail and be able to work following strict health and safety and infection control procedures. Key responsibilities are ensuring a tidy, safe environment and reporting any facility issues or necessary repairs to management. Staff are responsible for ensuring that residents receive the highest standard of care in these areas, tailored to their needs.

The ability to work efficiently and manage time effectively to complete tasks within set periods is essential. This role requires effective communication skills and the ability to work independently and within a team.

About Our Home

Ballifeary House is a highly regarded, small and friendly, 24-bed residential home, which belongs to the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Our function and purpose is aimed at providing a non-institutional, Christian atmosphere; one that is caring, relaxed and happy. This atmosphere is homely and respects the individuality, dignity and rights of privacy of each individual and it encourages and enables residents to achieve their potential capacity - physically, spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and socially

Staff do not need to be Christian to work here but must be prepared to uphold the Christian ethos within the Home.

Duties

To carry out kitchen, domestic and laundry duties as required in the Home and as delegated by the Senior staff.

Kitchen Duties:

When assisting in the kitchen: to operate the dishwasher, ensure cleanliness of the kitchen, carry out regular day to day and weekly deep cleaning, assist with basic food preparation, service of food, paying particular attention to presentation (consideration will be given to your skills and status when requesting you perform these duties). To serve residents food in the dining room and in their individual rooms. To prepare and take round a tea trolley serving hot and cold drinks and snacks to residents.

Domestic Duties:

When working with the domestic team you will be, dusting, vacuuming, sanitizing, and emptying bins, cleaning residents' bedrooms and en-suites, cleaning public areas of the Home such as the dining and sitting room, toilets, vestibules and hallways.

Laundry Duties:

When working in the laundry, you will be collecting and sorting linen, washing garments according to their instructions, filling and emptying washing machines and tumble driers, folding, ironing and putting way clean laundry.

Attention to detail in the finished appearance of residents' clothes is a must.

Skills

Strong understanding of home care practices and experience working in a care home setting is advantageous. Ability to work in all three areas of the Home and have a flexible approach to work to cover holidays of other staff, etc. Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating empathy and patience when interacting with residents. Pay: From 12.44 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 35 per week
