We are seeking a passionate and dynamic

Career and Next Steps Learning Mentor

to join our team. This individual will work with vulnerable children and young people, helping them explore their potential, set achievable goals, and prepare for their future.


The ideal candidate will

inspire, support, and guide learners

through tailored learning experiences, while ensuring a

holistic approach to their development

. This role is key to facilitating successful transitions for our learners and ensuring they are prepared for the next steps in their educational or career journeys.


Contract Type:

Term-time only, 8.30am-4.30pm, Monday to Friday


Key Responsibilities:




Develop Lesson Plans:

Create and deliver individualised lessons tailored to the needs and abilities of small groups of learners. Ensure that learning activities are engaging and designed to help learners reach their personal potential.

Work with Vulnerable Children and Young People:

Provide dedicated support for students facing barriers to education, including those with special educational needs (SEN), and help them overcome these barriers by adapting your teaching methods accordingly.

Collaborate with Referral Partners:

Work closely with external agencies and referral partners to ensure comprehensive support for each learner.

Build Relationships with Local Colleges and Employers:

Cultivate partnerships with local colleges, training providers, and employers to create opportunities for students, ensuring smooth transitions and pathways for further education, training, or employment.

Career Guidance and Transition Support:

Provide career advice and guidance to learners, helping them understand their options for the future. Support them in preparing for transitions, whether to further education, apprenticeships, or employment.

Therapeutic and Nurturing Approach:

Embrace a nurturing and therapeutic approach in your work, ensuring learners feel safe, valued, and supported throughout their journey with Stable Futures.

Adaptable Delivery Style:

Use a variety of teaching techniques and strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including those with SEN. Modify lesson plans and activities as required to ensure each learners success.

Ongoing Professional Development:

Engage in continuous training and professional development to stay informed on best practices for working with vulnerable children and young people, including those with SEN.

Essential Skills and Experience:




Experience working with children and young people, especially those who have additional educational or emotional needs. Strong understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and how to adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning requirements. Experience in career guidance, preparing young people for their next steps in education, training, or employment. Strong communication skills. Strong administrative and report-writing skills, with an ability to maintain accurate records and produce clear, concise reports. A proactive and adaptable approach to problem-solving. Knowledge of safeguarding practices and commitment to creating a safe, supportive environment for all learners.

Desirable:




Experience working in an Alternative Provision or similar educational setting. Qualifications in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or related fields. Knowledge of local college and training providers. Experience in liaising with external agencies and building partnerships.
