We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Caregiver to support my father in his own home. As Dad's needs change over time, the level of support will naturally increase - and so will the salary. Currently we anticipate 3.5 hours per day.
This is a special role, with the chance to make a real difference to Dad's quality of life. In return, we are offering
fully paid accommodation
in a lovely self-contained flat that adjoins his bungalow. The flat includes a bedroom, bathroom, lounge, kitchen, and a small conservatory with a garden view. The property has a swimming pool, private grounds with parking, and is located in Probus - a safe, welcoming village just 6 miles from Truro and the beach. The village has plenty of clubs and activities, making it a great place to settle in and feel part of the community.
Dad is 79 and has always been an active sportsman with a love of cycling. He's a kind man with a warm sense of humour, though dementia is slowly changing how independent he can be. Right now, he manages most things himself, but we know that over time he'll need more day-to-day help.
Responsibilities
Help with personal care such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting (currently not required but expected as his condition progresses).
Support with medication management and monitoring health changes.
Prepare simple, nutritious meals that suit Dad's preferences.
Assist with mobility and ensure safety during any lifting or transfers.
Follow care plans and support with behaviour management strategies.
Encourage activities that keep Dad engaged, active, and socially connected.
Keep accurate notes on care and progress.
Communicate regularly with the family and other professionals involved in Dad's care.
Drive Dad to appointments or social activities.
Offer companionship and emotional support.
Qualifications
Experience in caregiving is essential; nursing home or dementia care experience would be especially valuable.
First aid training is preferred; dementia-specific training is a bonus.
A valid driving licence.
Strong interpersonal skills - the right candidate will not only support Dad but also become a trusted friend.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping others.
Ability to safely manage lifting and mobility support when needed.
If you are kind, reliable, and committed to making a positive difference in someone's life, we'd love to hear from you. This is a rewarding role where you will not just provide care but also share in everyday life with our wonderful Dad.
