Following the retirement of our current Caretaker, an opportunity has arisen at the Ysgol Westwood site for a reliable, hardworking and flexible Caretaker to join our team, who is keen to make a difference and assist with maintaining the premises and grounds to a high standard. The contracted hours will be 16.25 hours per week, worked between 7:15am-8:30am five mornings in the week and 5pm - 7pm (Monday - Wednesday) and 4:30pm - 6:30pm (Thursday - Friday).
Ysgol Westwood is a unique site which also maintains the Ty Mes building, a large playing field, a large playground, forest school area and outdoor classroom as well as two further outdoor play provisions.
The Head Teacher and Governing Body are seeking a seasoned multi-trades person capable of routine property maintenance and repairs. As a self-monitored role, the successful applicant will be confident in making decisions, time management, working with the School's Senior Leaders and the Business Manager, prioritising workload and reporting performance to the Business Manager and Headteacher.
You will be responsible for the provision of reactive and proactive maintenance support to the school, school security and maintaining a safe school environment.

Duties
Carry out a range of duties to provide for the general security and maintenance of the site and Ty Mes premises.
Adhere to confidentiality and safeguarding procedures and practice.
To be one of the main key holders responsible for the security of the school premises & site.
To undertake minor repairs within agreed levels of competency as agreed with the line manager.
To comply with all procedures and instructions relating to site security and confidentiality.
To comply with all health and safety regulations including undertaking necessary checks of outdoor site, furnishings and equipment under the direction of the line manager and to report back if there are any areas of concern.
To facilitate access for contractors, ensuring the consultation of the Asbestos Management Plan where necessary.
Report progress/ concerns regarding site access and activities of contractors/ ongoing projects or adverse weather conditions.
Access relevant training and development as required to support the role.
Support the cleaning team by conducting stock takes.
Keep all cleaning/ caretaking storage areas in a well ordered and maintained state adhering to health and safety procedures.
Ensure all cleaning equipment is in good working order and safe condition.
Monitor cleaning equipment and stock levels, reporting to Business Manager to order stock, then unpack and store accordingly.
Carry out minor repairs and decoration as agreed with senior staff.
Test fire alarms weekly and maintain a log of outcomes.
To escort contractors and other persons to sites of repair and maintenance and, where directed, monitoring the safety of working practices and / or quality of work highlighting any issues to the Business Manager for resolution.
Ensure that the heating/hot water plant operates efficiently and economically. o Take energy readings as appropriate and report to the school's Secretary.
To set out and put away furniture and other equipment required for site events and undertake general portering duties as required by the line manager.
Be aware of Health and Safety and COSHH regulations and attend school/LA training as required.
To hand in any sensitive or confidential material found to the Headteacher or other appropriate person for safekeeping.
Inspection of the entire site grounds, field, forest school and play areas as per protocols to ensure they are safe to use and well maintained (including regular litter picks).
Inspect drains and gullies to ensure they are free flowing and clean on a regular basis - reporting any defects.
Assess the school site during adverse weather if possible and report to headteacher and Business Manager.
Clear path to main building from pedestrian access and staff carpark during adverse weather - snow and ice.
Carry out school holiday procedures, for example, running of taps.
Ensure regular refuse collection.
Restock soap and paper towel dispensers.
Qualifications
Previous Caretaking or equivalent experience
Experience of maintaining a site in line with health and safety requirements
Able to undertake basic repair work to school fixtures and fittings within area of competence
Additional qualifications considered relevant to the post
Able to work under direction, as part of a team Application/interview
Level of literacy and numeracy to support skills as outlined in job description
Understanding of Health and Safety legislation
Use tools and equipment safely and efficiently
Ability to work to pre-set timescales
