We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Caretaker to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, environment in our nurseries. This role involves a variety of tasks, including commercial cleaning and general upkeep of the premises and some painting of the nurseries. The Caretaker will play a vital role in ensuring that all areas are well-maintained and meet our high standards of cleanliness. There are 4 nurseries that you would be responsible for Bedford, Kettering, Irthlingborough and Riverside. The hours are 40 hours a week, 5 days a week, 8 hour day with an unpaid 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break. A vehicle will be provided as business use only.
Responsibilities
Preventing trespassing on the nursery grounds and ensuring that unauthorised parking of vehicles does not occur
Provide efficient maintenance, cleaning, health & safety and security of the nursery building and the grounds
Ensure that equality of access and opportunity is provided to all children, parents, staff and visitors
Ensure that all children are kept safe
Notify Designated Officer of any safeguarding concerns
Develop and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, parents and carers
Ensure confidentiality, where appropriate, is maintained
Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures and undertake responsibility for cleanliness and health and safety throughout the nursery
Work as part of a team to ensure the company's values are maintained
Attend regular staff meetings and undertake training as required
Be fully aware of all emergency and security procedures
Ensuring required temperatures are maintained in nursery premises and that an adequate supply of hot water available
Check hot water temperatures routinely
Maintaining the boiler house is clean and tidy and ensuring clear access to all service isolators (Gas, Electricity, Water)
Ensuring flammable materials are kept out of the boiler room and away from any heat sources
Replacing light bulbs/tubes if necessary and reporting any defects in the lighting or heating systems to the nursery manager
Carry out basic routine maintenance where necessary
Draw the attention to the nursery manager to any necessary repair maintenance work that is beyond the competence of the Caretaker
Ensure that the nurseries premise and furnishings are cleaned in accordance with the company's standards and expectations
Provide safe access to the nursery and playrooms
Removal of weeds from paved areas
Arrange/move furniture where necessary
Ensuring that any cleaning work is carried out to the recognised high standard and at a suitable time, ensuring that all cleaning work is carried out safely
Removal of rubbish from all areas surrounding the nursery, ensuring all play areas are safe for children to access
Ensuring all rubbish bins are emptied
Using cleaning materials in the prescribed manner, accepting responsibility for the cleaning equipment used and ensuring the safe usage and storage of such equipment and materials in accordance with the COSHH regulation
Ensuring that adequate quantities of toiletries including toilet rolls, liquid soap and hand towels are kept in stock. Distribute and replenish toiletries as required
Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by line manager
