Our Court of Protection team work with people who no longer have the mental capacity to deal with their own affairs and require the support of others to act on their behalf. This may be due to age related illness or an accident. Once it becomes apparent that someone will require assistance in managing their affairs we will meet with that person and family members to discuss more fully how we can provide assistance. Our Court of Protection specialist team assist clients throughout the UK from our East Anglia offices.
The Role
As a Case Worker, you'll be an integral part of a collaborative team, supporting a group of clients with varying needs. You'll manage a portfolio of your own cases while also assisting Deputyship Managers and Senior Deputyship Managers in delivering high-quality service.
Your primary focus will be supporting clients in managing their finances and handling the day-to-day responsibilities that come with this. You'll develop strong, trusting relationships with clients, their families and the professionals involved in their care. A key part of your role will be taking a holistic view of each client's situation to ensure their long-term financial wellbeing and that their best interests are always prioritised. This includes managing crises and offering practical advice and solutions.
The role can involve complex and sensitive situations. At times, you may need to communicate decisions that clients or their families find difficult to accept. As such, confidence, empathy, and professionalism are essential when navigating these conversations and managing potentially challenging or emotional responses.
Key Responsibilities

Work under the guidance and supervision of Senior Deputyship Managers and Deputyship Managers to ensure client funds are effectively managed. This includes making sure sufficient funds are available in the appropriate accounts to meet ongoing needs and expenses
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, their families, and external professionals and agencies, such as Case Managers, Social Services, and community care providers
Ensure all client files comply with the firm's policies, including conflict checks, anti-money laundering regulations, and risk and compliance standards. Files must be kept up to date and maintained in line with Law Society requirements
Contribute to a team-based environment by sharing workloads and delegating tasks where appropriate to enhance the overall client experience
This role may involve travel to clients nationally, with occasional overnight stays. Flexibility with working hours will be required at times in order to meet the needs of clients.
Knowledge, skills and experience required
A working knowledge of the Court of Protection is desirable; however, full training will be provided.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage sensitively and effectively with clients who may have mental and/or physical impairments, both over the phone and in person
Confidence in handling challenging or emotionally charged situations with professionalism and empathy
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities while maintaining high standards of service
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and identify effective solutions independently or collaboratively
A proactive approach to business development, with a willingness to support the team's activities
