Alex McIntyre, MP for Gloucester, is recruiting a Caseworker to join a busy constituency office. You will provide advice and support to local people on a range of issues, including housing and welfare and manage a large caseload to help to resolve problems through communication with government agencies, local authorities, the voluntary sector and other organisations. Duties will include:
Assisting surgeries and other meetings and following up as appropriate;
Managing large numbers of standard queries, assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media, or face-to-face;
Gathering relevant information to assist with resolving cases;
Logging all cases, monitoring progress and ensuring all identified actions are taken;
Ensuring records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation;
Drafting responses to constituents;
Critically analysing patterns of enquiries and articulating the findings in reports and communication with the MP and other staff members;
Ensuring that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with the MP;
Beginning to develop knowledge in specialist areas;
There will be an occasional requirement to work outside of normal working hours, including attending events with the MP as required.
Essential criteria:
Ability to deal with and prioritise a large and varied workload and work well under pressure;
Ability to manage expectations in sometimes challenging circumstances;
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills;
Good IT skills including MS Office;
Ability to draft letters and emails to a high professional standard;
Ability and willingness to develop knowledge in specialist areas;
Motivation to work proactively and independently, as well as part of a small team;
Commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party;
Previous casework experience desirable but not essential.
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office at the House of Commons.
