The Animal Science Department provides sector leading animal facilities to support animal science courses from Entry 3, Level 1 to Degree level. The curriculum is wide ranging, including care, management and breeding of small mammals, exotics, birds and fish.
The Technician will be expected to:
maintain a safe and healthy environment for all animals in the animal centre;
provide technical assistance and support for teaching and learning within your area, responding to the needs of students, academic staff and the relevant course leader/s;
maintain a clean and safe working environment, complying with Health and Safety regulations;
maintain and update relevant Health & Safety documentation such as Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, COSHH records and equipment maintenance records, in liaison with animal centre manager;
maintain, upgrade and service non-powered equipment as planned, required or requested; receiving relevant training as and when necessary;
ensure the care, control, maintenance and security of animal centre equipment, materials and stock;
maintain inventory of livestock;
carry out ordering of stock and monitor deliveries in line with college financial procedures
A minimum Level 3 animal industry related qualificationis essential for the role as is recent and relevant experience of the technical field/s concerned.
