The Casual Education Secondary Tutor is passionate about young people and will use this in post to increase participation and engagement among young people with certain subject areas. The primary aim of this post is to deliver support, mentoring and coaching sessions to registered students who are part of our Alternative Education Courses. The Tutor will require; planning and delivery of a basic
BTEC qualification Level 1 subjects TBC and Cambrian Village Trust Life Skills programme
and playing a pivotal role in mentoring, supporting the learners needs and aiding retention of learners on the course.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
To ensure that all sessions are planned and delivered to a high standard.
To assist the lead tutor where necessary support those who need extra help by offering 1 to 1 guidance.
To support the participation, retention, and progression of learners in their sessions.
Liaise with other staff members effectively.
Supervise the young people and ensure they are always safeguarded.
To attend and engage in all relevant staff meetings, and maintain effective communication with staff, learners, and other relevant organisations.
Assist with behaviour management and create a positive learning environment.
Monitor student progress and provide feedback to parents or guardians.
Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
To undertake training and CPD as necessary and relevant to the post.
To be familiar with the CVT Code of Conduct and all operational, Health & Safety, Child Protection and Data Protection policies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have a passion for working with young people from different educational backgrounds, and be committed to raising standards, be reliable, enthusiastic, and motivated. They must possess excellent communication, teamwork, leadership, ICT, and management skills and be able to build and sustain effective working relationships with staff.
Education and Experience
Degree or qualifications in the delivery subject. (preferred)
3 or more years of teaching assistant or coaching experience working with a variety of aged groups including secondary school age.
Experience of delivering training and working in community spaces and/or sports settings.
Experience of working with young people who are hard to reach, hard to engage.
Work Environment
The role is based in one of our satellite HUBS in the CF40 postcode, you will have access to an indoor hall, practical space, classroom and resources to create new and innovative games to engage the young people. There is a kitchen available to use onsite and you will be working in pairs alongside our Engagement Coach.
Parking onsite is free.
