Casual Night Watchman Stable Yard

Job Description
We are looking for a dependable and attentive Night Watchman to oversee the stable yard at Newcastle Racecourse during night hours when visiting horses are in residence. The role is to ensure the safety and security of the horses, facilities and property overnight, as well as assist with general yard duties during busy racing periods when directed by the Stable Manager. This is a casual position, covering shifts as required.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and safeguard the stable yard throughout the night, calling for relevant support where required.
Conduct regular patrols of stables, tack rooms and surrounding areas.
Ensure gates, doors and access points remain secure.
Respond promptly to unusual activity, disturbances or emergencies.
Keep accurate records of overnight checks and incidents.
Report maintenance, security or safety concerns to management.
Provide a visible and reassuring presence on-site.
Assist with general yard duties during busy racing periods, as directed by the Stable Manager.
Skills & Requirements
Reliability and the ability to work independently.
Comfortable with lone working for long periods during night shifts.
Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to remain alert and calm during night hours.
Good communication skills.
Previous experience in a watchman, security or similar role preferred.
Experience working with or around horses is very desirable but not essential.
An SIA Security Badge is advantageous but not essential.
Working Conditions
Casual night shifts, including weekends and public holidays as required.
Role involves significant lone working.
Work is primarily outdoors in a stable environment.
Pay: 12.21 per hour
