Purpose of the Job
You will be an enthusiastic and dedicated member of the retail transport team committed to supporting our network of Lighthouse Charity shops to achieve their targets through the collection/delivery of donated and sold goods and the transferring of stock between shops. You will be responsible for collections of furniture, boxes of Bric a Brac and bags of clothing from donors by providing efficient, courteous assistance with high levels of customer service. You will uphold the ethos and values of the charity at all times whilst carrying out the duties of your role.
Key tasks and responsibilities
Vehicle & Equipment Use
To drive /operate vehicles and equipment in accordance with legal requirements, safety guidelines and Valley CiDS policies and procedures.
To carry out vehicle and equipment checks in accordance with procedures and to maintain records as required.
To lift and/or move items carefully and safely, using moving and handling equipment and securing materials in line with health and safety procedures.
Collections & Deliveries
To plan routes for the day's collections and deliveries to ensure the most efficient use of vehicles and to meet customer requirements.
To treat stock and property with care and respect when moving and handling items in shops and when entering customers' homes to undertake collections/deliveries.
To complete collection and delivery records and daily work log in accordance with Lighthouse procedures, maintaining customer contact details confidentially and securely in line with data protection processes.
Shop Sales Support
To assist our shops with rotating stock between our retail outlets ensuring we can maximise our sales.
To assist our shops on making sales and ensuring Gift Aid is collected from customers wherever possible.
Customers & Colleagues
To provide excellent customer care at all times, representing the Charity in a professional manner in accordance with Lighthouse standards of courtesy and respect and the Driver Dress Code.
To communicate with other staff and volunteers with courtesy and respect.
Person Specification
It is essential to hold a full UK driver's licence with no more than 3 penalty points.
Must be over the age of 25 and have been driving for over two years.
Essential to have experience of driving Sprinter-type vans and 3.5 tonne Luton vans.
Can transport furniture goods in a safe and responsible manner.
Is physically fit and prepared for heavy lifting.
Good knowledge of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire geography to support route planning.
Basic Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check will be undertaken by Valley CIDS on all Retail Van Drivers.
