Job description
Play a key role in ensuring the emotional, physical, and social well-being of the looked after children of Leicester City.
Join our ever improving and expanding service, ensuring children are at the heart of our work. We are committed to working in partnership with children, families, and young adults to achieve the best outcomes. Based at any one of our 6 children's homes or one of our newly opening homes based across the Leicester City Suburbs. You'll provide care, guidance and support to children and young people, some of which have challenging behaviours, disabilities, or complex health care needs.
These are casual posts which means we will contact you in advanced for available shifts which it's up to you to take if available. Shifts will always be from 10pm to 8am. This will include working on weekends and bank holidays. For night/weekend working, payment will be at plain time plus a premium of 33.3%.
It is required that Waking Night staff will not sleep on duty. You'll be required to work from whatever location is necessary at the time and will be able to make your own way to your place of work, whether this be by your own car or public transport.
What you'll be doing
You'll provide consistent care when working with children and young people whilst being flexible and approach all tasks (including personal care), in a positive manner to ensure that the needs of the individual are paramount throughout the night.
Having experience with housekeeping you'll complete various tasks such as cleaning surfaces, washing dishes, vacuuming, emptying waste bins, basic sewing repairs etc. You'll manage stripping bed, soiled clothing/bedding, laundry sorting, washing, ironing, and distributing the linen.
You'll report any incidents/accidents involving children as soon as practically possibly to the senior staff on duty, you'll risk assess the building regularly to ensure that everything is in order and report any breaches of building security.
You'll ensure that the appropriate records relating to children and young people and the team are kept up to date in the agreed format and are securely managed and filed.
What you'll need
With the ability to build appropriate and trusting relationships with children and young people, you'll develop their self esteem and confidence. Having experience of working with people, and particularly those with challenging behaviour, you'll approach situations in a diplomatic and sensitive manner.
You'll have some previous experience working in a caring role, with knowledge of moving and handling, you'll be physically fit to assist with lifting, in order to provide personal care. Using your good level of communication skills, you'll be able to give and receive verbal handovers, write notes and report, including observations of children and young people. As an organised individual you'll be able to manage own workload with minimum direction.
Due to the nature of this role, you must be 21 years or older. Appointment will be subject to an enhanced DBS and reference checks.
