MS Amlin are seeking a seasoned and commercially-minded actuary to join their actuarial function as the Catastrophe Reserving Manager. The role is a direct report of the Head of Reserving.
The role of Catastrophe Reserving Manager is principally tasked with owning the Reserving process for Natural Catastrophe and Man Made Events with extensive interaction with Underwriting, Exposure Management, Claims and Outwards Reinsurance. The role will also be asked to help out with other project related work across the Reserving function especially during the period of modernisation.

Core activities over the next 18 months are likely to include the following. Beyond this, the role is likely to evolve based on MS Amlin's overall strategy and the strategy of the Finance function.
Event loss coordination
Coordination of MS Amlin's event loss process, spearheading our reserving of natural and man-made catastrophe losses. This aspect of the role will involve:For new and emerging events, mobilising colleagues within the Exposure Management, Underwriting, Claims and Outwards Reinsurance teams to shape our event response Supporting the Chief Actuary in making a recommendation for best estimate reserves from Catastrophe losses and communicating the associated uncertainty around that Producing high-quality documentation for review and sign-off by the Executive Management Team Across the set of MS Amlin's historical events, generating critical analytics and insight to support the reasonableness of reserve estimates Provide insights on active catastrophe events to the Executive Management Team and the Audit Committee Serve as the face of MS Amlin for engagement with stakeholders (e.g. Lloyd's or Head Office), including production of external reporting.

Project support
Representation of MS Amlin Actuarial within company-wide projects and change initiatives. MS Amlin are currently involved in an exciting suite of projects, across areas such as GAAP Reserving Process Transformation, Corporate Finance, IFRS17 & Head Office Reporting and broader MS&AD initiatives, with Finance playing a key role in successful execution.
The Catastrophe Reserving Manager could be asked to offer support in various projects as we go through our transformation journey.
Leadership and coordination
The Catastrophe Reserving Manager will provide broader leadership and coordination, adding bandwidth to the Head of Reserving. Activities will involve, but not be limited to.Liaison with other MS&AD entities, such as Amlin Business Services, MSIG UK, Amlin Insurance S.E. and MS Re Liaison with Head Office Liaison with auditors and the SAO provider

What you'll need
It is expected that the jobholder will be a senior qualified actuary, with reserving experience in the general insurance industry, preferably within the London Market/Lloyd's. Experience of working on projects (e.g. transactions or transformation projects) is not a pre-requisite, but would be valuable for the role. Experience working on Catastrophe and Major event reserving would also be desirable.
The jobholder will be joining a large, experienced and diverse actuarial team. The jobholder will support the Chief Actuary and the Head of Reserving.
Skills, qualifications and competenciesDegree or equivalent experience. Actuarial qualification such as FIA, FCAS, FSA, FIAA. Experience in reserving, through either in-house or consulting roles. Experience of presenting information effectively to senior management, governance forums and shareholders as required. Problem solving skills. Strong communication and presentation skills Demonstrated ability to deliver and manage accurate, thoughtful, detail-oriented work within tight deadlines. Ability to provide and withstand technical challenge from a wide audience. Calmness under workload pressure. Organisation and planning skills. Ability to stand by actuarial judgement.
