As a Catenary Technician, you will be at the heart of maintaining the infrastructure that powers electric rail transport. This role involves working with the fixed overhead systems that support power supply wires for electric traction locomotives, ensuring they operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. You will carry out both preventative and corrective maintenance, and may also be required to coordinate and supervise real-time railway maintenance activities.
Your work will take place in a variety of environments, including tunnels, terminals, and elevated positions, where you'll apply your technical expertise in both mechanical and electrical systems. Whether working independently or as part of a team, you'll contribute to the smooth running of rail operations and play a key role in improving the performance of the catenary section through daily reporting and continuous feedback.
This is a dynamic, field-based role that offers variety, responsibility, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a safety-critical setting.
Carry out maintenance, inspections, and repairs on all components of the catenary system, including masts, insulators, cable carriers, contact wires, and consoles, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
Assess equipment condition and compliance, identify and report any safety risks or non-conformities, and replace defective or potentially hazardous parts as required.
Interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and assembly instructions accurately, and complete all relevant documentation such as work orders, checklists, and intervention reports.
Perform railway safety functions, including observing safety procedures, managing catenary isolation (consignation), and handling Permits to Work for safe operations near or on the catenary system.
Take proactive measures to ensure compliance with minimum operating standards and system reliability.
Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations, as well as Eurotunnel's Quality and Environmental standards.
Respond promptly to intervention requests from the Rail Control Centre (RCC) and maintain effective communication to support catenary operations.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems and processes by participating in the review, amendment, and validation of maintenance documentation.
