We are seeking a Catering Manager to organise, supervise and provide a quality catering service for the school in accordance with budgets and national standards.
Duties
To be responsible for the preparation, cooking and service of food ensuring that efficient and economic use is made of all resources and the highest standards of hygiene and food safety are maintained.
To plan, operate and control the production and service of food related duties, devising set programmes of work for catering staff and to supervise the work of catering staff on a daily basis.
To devise menus to ensure a variety of meals are served in the school which cater for different dietary requirements as appropriate.
To take responsibility for the standard of cleanliness, safety and hygiene of the premises and equipment and operate within the guidelines of the Health and Safety and Hygiene Regulations.
To ensure that all catering staff receive the relevant food safety and hygiene training and hold up to date Basic Food Hygiene certificates.
To order all food goods and other commodities required from the recognised suppliers in accordance with the catering requirements of the school, ensuring good value to adhere to the agreed school catering budget.
To operate and control food stocks to include maintaining stock records and ensuring the correct completion and submission of all appropriate returns and records.
To act as health and safety co-ordinator within the school kitchens, ensuring the recognised health and safety procedures and practices are adhered to by all catering staff working within the school kitchens.
To ensure and adjust in conjunction with the Headteacher/Operations Manager, the levels of staffing within the school catering team so as to ensure an efficient catering service which fulfils the school's catering requirements.
To participate in the selection, appointment and induction of new catering staff as authorised.
To adhere to the correct accounting procedures with regard to receipt of payments for food and drinks and ensure such procedures are adhered to by all catering staff.
To organise, control and assist with school catering functions at the direction of the Headteacher/Operations Manager, arranging for appropriate invoices to be made in respect of catering functions and services made available to users of the school's premises and facilities.
To provide meals to staff, pupils, and visitors in the event of functions and events, when requested.
To oversee the health and safety of the educational catering kitchen, carrying out half-termly audits with the Food Tech teacher/tutor, reporting to the Operations Manager as required.
To arrange and facilitate deep cleaning of the school kitchens, including educational catering kitchen.
To participate in training as requested, which may require a temporary change to working hours.
To support pupils, staff and visitors with individual needs, such as allergies and medical conditions relating to catering services, adapting food and drink provisions as required
Qualifications and Skills
- Attainment of GCSE qualifications or equivalent in Maths and English.
- Attainment of NVQ Level 3 in a catering or related field, or equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of three years experience of catering work.
- Previous experience supervising staff.
- Food hygiene certificate.
- Good communication and team working skills.
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic.
- Able to undertake physically demanding work.
- Previous work in a SEND school and/or knowledge of SEMH (desirable)
- Knowledge of and adherence to Safer Foods Better Business, H&S, and School Food Regulations (desirable)
- Knowledge of budget and accounts procedures (desirable)
- Comfortable working with children and young people.
