Memorandum of Understanding with Canterbury Christ Church University as a member of the Cathedrals Group


Background

The Executive, the members of which are the Trustees of the Cathedrals Group of Universities, has agreed to fund the secondment of a member of staff from one of the Cathedrals Group's Universities for a period of 3 years on the terms and conditions identified in the job description attached at Appendix A. The decision to fund this secondment has been endorsed by the full Council of the Cathedrals Group which has also considered the Group's income and expenditure.



Aims and objectives

The aim of the MoU is to support the secondment of a member of staff to provide the Cathedrals Group with administrative and strategic policy advice and support as set out in the job description.


Obligations

This MoU sets out the obligations of both parties i.e. the Cathedrals Group and the individual University which is a signatory to the MoU. The MoU does not commit the Cathedrals Group to recruit the secondee from the signatory institution bearing in mind that the secondment opportunity will be advertised to and by all Cathedrals Group Members which sign an MoU.

Obligations


The Cathedrals Group undertakes to:

manage the recruitment and appointment process for this secondment via


Birmingham Newman University

fund the secondment including on-costs and any VAT payable, of a 0.6 contract on a


Grade 7 salary range as applicable in the host university for a period of 3 years with the start date to be agreed between the Cathedral Group's Trustees and the host university

reimburse the host university for an agreed contribution towards the provision of any IT equipment and supervisory support required and agreed reimburse any travel or accommodation expenses incurred by the secondee in respect of their secondment in line with the policies of the host university providing that such expenses are approved by the Chair of the Cathedrals Group provide support to the secondee during an induction and probationary period liaise via the Cathedrals Group Chair with the host university in respect of the performance of the secondee convene quarterly meetings with the host university to monitor the working of the MoU and to seek to resolve any issues that are identified


The host University undertakes to:

identify a senior member of staff to supervise the secondee provide a location / desk space for the secondee and any IT equipment that might be required and is agreed by the Trustees of the Cathedrals Group provide professional indemnity insurance and any other insurance applicable in liaison with the Cathedrals Group, provide support during the induction and probationary period attend quarterly meetings with the Cathedrals Group to monitor the working of the MoU and to seek to resolve any issues that are identified take responsibility to manage and if required, fund any redundancy payment that may be due if the secondee's permanent post at the host university is no longer available at the end of the Cathedral Group secondment and no suitable alternative post is identified and agreed at the host university.


It should be noted that the Cathedrals Group of Universities is not an employer and that the secondee will continue to be employed by the host university whose policies and procedures will continue to apply including maternity / carers' leave and performance management.
