New Forest District Council is looking for a vigilant, compassionate individual who is confident with modern technology, to join our team in our modern 24-hour control room. In this role, you'll help monitor over 120 cameras and support the delivery of our Community Alarm (Careline) service, which connects to over 2000 clients.



This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in community safety, emergency response, and support for vulnerable residents.


What You'll Be Doing:



Monitoring over 120 CCTV cameras across public spaces and council assets to detect and respond to incidents


Liaising with emergency services, including police control centres and officers, to support crime prevention and public safety


Responding to Community Alarm (Careline) calls, assessing needs, and taking appropriate action, including contacting emergency services


Installing, programming, and maintaining alarm units in clients' homes, ensuring their safety and peace of mind

Handling out-of-hours council calls and public enquiries professionally and efficiently

Preparing and managing sensitive data, including CCTV footage, in line with data protection laws and operational codes of practice
Operating and maintaining security systems, radios, and IT platforms, including Microsoft Office and specialist software.


What We're Looking For:



Strong observational skills and the ability to remain focused and calm under pressure


Excellent customer service skills for dealing with appointment preparation, scheduling and customer enquiries.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for incident reporting and customer interaction

A professional, empathetic, and confident approach when dealing with vulnerable individuals or distressing situations

Good level of IT literacy and the ability to learn and operate bespoke monitoring systems

Physical dexterity for equipment installation and basic maintenance

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, using initiative within established procedures

Experience handling confidential information and understanding of data protection principles
Willingness to work additional hours to cover leave or sickness when needed


Additional Information:


You'll be part of a 24/7 operation, contributing to a safer, more responsive community Part-time - example rota would be 2x Day shifts (06:00-18:00) followed by 6 days off, on an 8-day recurring pattern Enhanced DBS clearance is required due to the sensitive nature of the role Aptitude or personality assessments may be part of the selection process Travel expenses are reimbursed for home visits
