SynGenSys creates synthetic genetic parts for next-generation biomedicines and biomanufacturing processes. Our philosophy is that all production processes and biopharmaceutical products are unique, and accordingly the DNA components used for therapy and biomanufacturing should be specifically built for purpose. We utilise our advanced platform technology to engineer these customised synthetic genetic parts from the ground-up, helping patients get quicker access to better medicines.
We are a fast-growing interdisciplinary team working at the intersection of molecular biology, bioinformatics, bioengineering and mammalian cell culture. We believe in a working environment where people are encouraged to share and test new ideas, and work collaboratively to solve complex challenges. Working in a dynamic, innovation-focussed research environment provides regular opportunities for our team to develop new skills and reach their potential.
Role:
You will be a key member of our R&D team, contributing to the development and validation of novel genetic components for gene therapy applications. Specifically, you will be responsible for developing new protocols to culture a range of human cell-types in vitro and transfect them with DNA plasmids. You will work with multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with bioinformaticians, molecular biologists, and bioengineers. Working with scientists from both within SynGenSys and our partnering companies, you will take a leading role in designing and carrying out lab-based experimental work to test the performance of new DNA parts with biotherapeutic applications.
Responsibilities:
Evaluate available in vitro cell models for a range of human cell types
Develop protocols to culture human cells in vitro and transfect them with DNA plasmids.
Collaborate with other team members to develop/implement analytical methods to measure gene/protein expression.
To initially support, and in time lead, management of projects, including internal R&D projects and external collaborative projects (e.g., creating experimental plans and delivering update presentations).
Become an active member of the R&D management team, helping to shape both short and long-term R&D strategies.
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum requirements:
PhD in mammalian cell engineering, molecular biology, synthetic biology, bioengineering or biological sciences
Experience of culturing and transfecting human cells in vitro* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a wider team
