Job Description


As a Cell Manager, you will provide effective supervision and leadership, you will also manage the day to day operations of the allocated machining cell(s) here at BEL Engineering.

The company

British Engines Group company, BEL Engineering, offers sub-contract machining services specialising in large capacity, heavy duty, horizontal machining.

BEL Engineering works primarily in the defence, nuclear, renewables and oil and gas sectors and operates from an advanced manufacturing facility based in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll be doing

  • Lead, motivate and develop your team to achieve business goals
  • Effectively communicate and implement company policies, procedures and practices
  • Drive the SQCDP (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People) culture throughout operations
  • Implement and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Lead daily SQCDP Cell Meetings
  • Proactively manage absence and performance management issues, including disciplinary procedures
  • Ensure full compliance to all business standards (H&S, Quality and site performance)
  • Ensure incidents/accidents are captured, reported and contained with corrective actions
  • Support the Operations Manager in delivering business objectives
  • Provide guidance and feedback to team members, clearly setting expectations
  • Identify poor performance and manage through performance improvement plans
  • Ensure that the team\xe2\x80\x99s training and development needs are identified and met
  • Promptly contain faults and put corrective actions in place
  • Understand and drive OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) across the site
  • Ensure constructive handover and ensure all issues are captured Practice and maintain 5S standards
  • Ensure that you work in a safe manner and comply with the British Engines Group Health, Safety and Environmental Policy
  • Carry out any other responsibilities not listed above as may be reasonably expected
Who we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for

To apply, we ask that you have an HNC or NVQ Level 4 in Engineering or an apprenticeship certificate in a relevant engineering discipline. IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications would be advantageous.

We also ask that you have experience working in a manufacturing environment in a management/supervisory role. An understanding of 3 and 5 Axis CNC machines, experience of working in a subcontract manufacturing environment and manufacturing components for various industries (aerospace, oil and gas, nuclear, defence) would also be desirable

As a proven leader, you will have the ability to develop your team through coaching and training. You will demonstrate a positive, innovative and motivated approach to your work combined with an ability to work under pressure within time constraints.
