An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and organised individual to join our team as Cellar Service Manager on a permanent contract.

Overview



This is a pivotal role at the heart of our business, where you'll act as the Beer Quality Champion for the entire company. You'll lead a skilled team of cellar service technicians, oversee maintenance, installations, refurbishments, and major events, and ensure our pubs and free trade partners consistently serve the best possible beer.

Working across both cask and keg dispense systems, you'll help maintain the highest standards of beer quality across our 127 pubs and a growing free trade network of around 350 partners. With a mix of hands-on involvement and strategic leadership, no two days will ever be the same. Key Responsibilities



Lead and manage a team of cellar service technicians, coordinating their work on pub refurbishments, installations, breakdowns, and callouts across the estate and growing free trade business. Act as the company's Beer Quality Champion - ensuring the highest standards of cellar management, dispense systems and beer across all our sites. Manage ullage effectively and provide robust reporting to minimise losses. Take responsibility for cellar gas systems, ensuring full compliance with the BGCA Code of Practice. Oversee stock control, working with suppliers to make sure the right equipment and parts are available when needed for both installations and emergencies. Manage budgets and provide regular reporting to senior management. Work closely with contractors and suppliers to deliver projects on time, to budget and to a high standard. Provide hands-on support to free trade customers for unique events such as beer festivals, music festivals, and outside bars. Deliver training to pub teams on cellar management and beer quality, raising standards across the estate. Play a leading role in our Pub Awards, acting as a judge for beer quality and cellar standards.

The Successful Candidate



A strong communicator with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders including pub teams, contractors, suppliers, and senior managers. Highly organised and able to juggle multiple priorities, often under pressure and to tight deadlines. Experience of managing people, budgets and resources effectively. A natural problem solver who can think on their feet and remain calm under pressure. Passionate about beer quality with the technical knowledge to become a trusted expert in the field. Motivated, driven, and enthusiastic about raising standards and delivering results. Enjoys working as part of a team but also confident to take ownership and lead projects. We welcome candidates who bring expertise from either cellar services or brewing, as either pathway can deliver the knowledge and experience this role requires.

Who are we?



Joseph Holt is an independent, six-generation family-owned company, with 127 pubs across the Northwest, ranging from traditional community pubs, food led destination pubs and some with onsite letting rooms. Since 1849 we have been brewing a wide range of award-winning beers in our Manchester brewery, which have won 7 Gold Medals at the International Brewing Awards at the last 7 International Brewing Awards in the last 14 years alone. Alongside this, we have an ever-expanding Free Trade and sell beer to multiple types of accounts across the country. We are a friendly, family run Brewer and Pub Company that are passionate about what we do and the people who work for us. For over 100 years, we have fundraised for the Christie Hospital and also support different charity appeals throughout the community.
