For many years The Donkey Sanctuary has promoted the self-development of children and adults through the benefits of being in the presence of donkeys. We offer Donkey Assisted Activities (DAA) at our DAA centres, including Donkey Facilitated Learning (DFL), Donkey Management Programme (DMP) and Wellbeing with Donkeys (WWD). These ground-based activities support the development of people\xe2\x80\x99s life skills and wellbeing, helping individuals to better deal with challenges in everyday life, while also promoting positive attitudes towards donkeys.

We have an excellent opportunity for a flexible and proactive team player with outstanding interpersonal skills to join our dedicated team at our Ivybridge Centre. As Centre Support, you will be the first point of contact, providing a warm welcome to visitors, offering help, advice, and information on all aspects of the Centre, the wider DAA department and the charity as a whole. In addition to customer-facing duties, you will also have the opportunity to assist with our Donkey Assisted Activity programmes and support our general Centre operations.

About you:

  • Strong customer service skills, including experience of working with members of the public.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience of communicating with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Excellent I.T skills (Word, Excel, Power-point).
  • Able to multi-task and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail whilst working with a number of conflicting demands.
  • Able to work on own initiative.
  • Good time management and prioritising skills.
  • Willingness to work towards a food hygiene certificate.
About the role:

Your principal duties and responsibilities will include \xe2\x80\x93
  • Providing excellent customer service to visitors, supporters and clients and assisting with queries from the public, both online and via telecommunications.
  • Assisting the Centre Coordinator with administrative tasks, and supporting the Centre Manager in the Coordinators absence.
  • Promoting the Adopt a Donkey scheme to visitors and explain how their adoption will support the work of The Donkey Sanctuary worldwide.
  • Ensuring the gift shop is kept well stocked, and implementing attractive, seasonal displays to maximise sales throughout the year.
  • Undertaking small amounts of cash handling, within the shop or when serving refreshments to visitors.
  • Occasionally assisting in areas of service delivery of Donkey Assisted Activities to our clients.
  • Assisting in maintaining high standards of site presentation, including information displays, cleanliness and centre stock control and in developing the visitor offering at the Centre, e.g. activities, walks etc.
What we offer in return:

Based at The Donkey Assisted Activities Centre, Ivybridge, Devon, this is a part-time, permanent contract starting as soon as possible, working 21 hours per week over 3 days. The working pattern will be 08.30-16.30, Thursday-Saturday, expect the first weekend of each month which will be Friday-Sunday Flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the Centre.
