As we scale, we are looking for a driven, experienced Chief Engineering Officer to join our leadership team and guide the engineering efforts to achieve our ambitious goals.

Position Overview:



We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Chief Engineering Officer (CEO) to lead the engineering department at Xosa. As the CEO, you will be responsible for driving all engineering aspects of the business, from product development through to manufacturing, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of performance, safety, and innovation. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will be expected to build and lead an engineering team, implement cutting-edge technologies, and scale our operations for production. This role comes with an equity component and salary to be defined post-funding, giving you the chance to be an integral part of our journey and success.

Key Responsibilities:



Engineering Leadership:

Lead and manage all engineering functions, from R&D through product lifecycle, including design, prototyping, testing, and production of Xosa excavators.

Product Development:

Spearhead the development of innovative, AI-powered, and energy-efficient machines, ensuring the technical architecture and components exceed industry standards.

Team Building & Leadership:

Build, mentor, and scale a top-tier engineering team, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and excellence.

Strategic Planning:

Collaborate with the leadership team to define and execute the engineering roadmap in line with business goals, market demand, and technological advancements.

Technology Integration:

Oversee the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as AI, autonomous systems, machine learning, and energy-efficient powertrains (electric and hydrogen) into the design of excavators.

Collaboration & Partnerships:

Work with external partners, suppliers, and manufacturers to ensure that Xosa's products are built with the highest quality materials, while keeping production timelines on track.

Compliance & Safety:

Ensure all products meet regulatory and safety standards across various markets, including CE marking, ISO certifications, and specific automotive or construction-related standards.

Budget & Resource Management:

Manage engineering budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources in alignment with business priorities, and ensuring cost-effective engineering solutions that align with Xosa's financial objectives.

Innovation & Competitive Edge:

Continuously drive innovation and research to ensure Xosa's products remain ahead of competitors in terms of performance, functionality, and sustainability.

Required Qualifications:



Proven experience as an engineering leader, with at least 10 years of experience in a senior engineering role (preferably within the automotive, construction, or heavy machinery industry). Strong background in product development, mechanical engineering, electrical systems, and AI integration, ideally with a focus on autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicles. Expertise in managing and scaling engineering teams and operations, particularly in a fast-paced start-up environment. Deep knowledge of product lifecycle management, from concept to production. Ability to work cross-functionally with business development, sales, operations, and marketing teams. Strong track record of bringing innovative products to market. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to overcome technical challenges and pivot as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:



Experience in battery technology, hydrogen fuel cells, and AI-powered systems integration. Previous start-up experience, with a clear understanding of the unique challenges and rewards that come with scaling a new business. Familiarity with regulatory standards, particularly in the automotive or construction machinery sectors. A passion for sustainability and green technologies in the construction and heavy equipment industry.
