Exciting Opportunity for Band 6 Mental Health Nurse to join Acute Wards (including the new all-male Waveney Ward).





Are you a motivated Mental Health Nurse ready to take the next step in your career? We are seeking a dedicated Band 6 Charge Nurse to join our acute wards, including our newly opened Waveney Ward. What we're looking for:





We are seeking someone who can demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and risk assessment skills, alongside sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act. Compassion, empathy, and approachability are essential, both in supporting colleagues and in delivering excellent care to patients.


Main duties of the job




Providing clear and supportive leadership as a Charge Nurse, acting as a role model for high-quality care. Demonstrating excellent knowledge and application of the Mental Health Act. Ensuring accurate, timely, and professional record keeping, including care documentation and audits. Communicating effectively within the multidisciplinary team and with external professionals such as social care. Leading a care team, advocating for patient needs, and ensuring staff are supported and supervised. Keeping up to date with NICE guidelines and local procedures, and sharing updates with the team. Taking lead responsibility for a specific ward area (e.g., Infection Control, Safeguarding). Participating in Quality Improvement projects to support service development. Undertaking training in Prevention and Management of Aggression (PMA), if not already qualified.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities




The post holder will work supportively and collaboratively with the Clinical Team Leader in ensuring the effective management of the ward in all respects, environmental, financial and clinical insofar as this relates to nursing practice.



The post holder will undertake the planning and delivery of direct patient care with appropriate supervision, ensuring continuity of practice and working within a multi-disciplinary

and multi-agency environment.

The post holder will be expected to provide a clinical lead to staff in various areas of practice,

adhering to the philosophy and clinical skills base of the ward.

The post holder will monitor nursing practice on a day to day basis and ensure that nursing compliments the practice of other professionals The post holder will work towards implementing reviews and changes in practice at the discretion of the Clinical Team Leader The post holder will be required to work shifts across a 24-hour period in order to meet the needs of the service. Actively participate in a 24 hour site management rota for both Chatterton House and the Fermoy Unit.

Mantal Health Nurse




Essential criteria




2 years experience in acute inpatient mental health settings Strong understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding procedures

Desirable criteria




Teaching, assessing, or mentorship qualification Knowledge of clinical governance, CQC standards, and quality improvement frameworks. #

Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with valid NMC registration.




Essential criteria




Evidence of continued professional development.

Desirable criteria




Leadership or management qualification (e.g., ILM, NVQ in Leadership, or equivalent).
